Project Management Office Lead

Role summary

The PMO Lead will establish and lead PLACE's newly created Project Management Office, designing the systems, tools and reporting cycles, annual, quarterly and project-level, that give PLACE real-time oversight of its whole program of work.

This is a founding role. Rather than inheriting a fixed methodology, you'll assess how PLACE's project processes currently work, alongside a team who knows the work inside out before proposing what should change. You'll help create the conditions for a more consistent, better-supported way of delivering projects across a distributed, remote-first team.

Who you are (selection criteria)

• You have solid experience in project management or PMO functions, ideally within a remote or distributed team.
• You have strong diagnostic skills, you assess before you prescribe.
• You are collaborative, comfortable engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across a distributed team.
• You are comfortable with ambiguity and manage competing priorities with a proactive, adaptable approach.
• You can simplify complexity and make insights accessible to people who aren't project management specialists.
• You may have a project management certification (PRINCE2, PMP, AgilePM or equivalent). 
• You demonstrate a commitment to PLACE's vision, values and principles, particularly around community leadership and shared decision-making.

Requirements

Key responsibilities

• Lead back-office project operations: tracking, reporting, and resourcing across PLACE's project portfolio.
• Establish and maintain registers for project risks, issues, dependencies and decisions, and embed a consistent approach to escalating and resolving them.
• Work closely with PLACE's Evaluation and Learning Lead to ensure project processes and reporting align with PLACE's Theory of Change and broader evaluation and learning approach.
• Build strong working relationships across PLACE's distributed, remote-first team.
• Establish and implement systems to monitor project delivery, ensuring activities are delivered on time and within scope.
• Help establish an external panel of specialists and experts who can be engaged for contracted project work as needed.
• Adapt the PMO function as PLACE's structure continues to settle following the recent restructure.
