SAFY of Colorado is currently seeking dedicated individuals and families to welcome youth ages 6–18 into their homes located in Boulder, Denver, Adams, Larimer and Weld Counties and provide the care, stability, and support they need to thrive. We are a team of 500 employees across seven states providing services such as Family Preservation & Reunification, Behavioral Health, Therapeutic Foster Care, Adoption Services and Older Youth Services so the families and children we serve can build resilience and thrive. 

As a SAFY Professional Foster Parent you will be responsible for the daily care of youth who are placed in your home to receive therapeutic supports while on their healing journey. These youth may be stepping down from congregate care settings, or at risk of entering into them if they don’t receive a specialized foster care placement. In addition to meeting the youth’s daily care needs, providing them with enriching activities to grow socially and academically, Professional Foster Parents also collaborate in treatment planning with child’s professional team to ensure that they receive the services and advocacy they need to move towards permanency.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing a safe, stable, and welcoming home environment
  • Supporting children and youth with daily routines and life skills
  • Attending appointments, therapy, and school meetings as needed
  • Using trauma- conscious caregiving approaches and behavioral strategies
  • Advocating for permanency of the youth & support birth and kinship families as youth step-down into lower levels of care
  • Encouraging independence and healthy social relationships
  • Collaborating with a professional team to meet the youth’s needs
  • Documenting progress and maintaining foster home licensing compliance

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Must be 21 or older.
  • Have a stable income to cover household expenses.
  • Must have a private bedroom available for foster youth.
  • Be able to provide a safe, caring, and affirming home for all children/youth, including LGBTQIA+ youth.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • All household members must be willing to complete and pass background checks and health screenings.
  • Willingness to become certified as a treatment foster home through Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY) of Colorado which includes completing 60 hours of pre-service training, prior to contract start.
