AI Summary

The Product Owner manages the product backlog, authors user stories, and ensures tactical prioritization within sprint cadences. They act as the primary product voice to IT, facilitating execution and validating that delivered work meets product intent.

About the Role

The Product Owner is the day-to-day owner of a defined product or feature set within a broader product area at LLF. They are responsible for the health of their product’s backlog; refining work, authoring clear user stories with acceptance criteria, prioritizing tactically within the sprint cadence, and serving as the primary product voice to IT during execution.

This role focuses on execution, ownership, and operational consistency in a regulated, high-stakes legal services environment. Working in close partnership with Product Managers, IT, the Project Management Office (PMO), and operational stakeholders, the Product Owner ensures that strategic product intent translates into well-formed, well-prioritized work that engineering can deliver predictably. The Product Owner also organizes and drives the "Quick Wins" pipeline for their product area; surfacing, scoping, and shepherding smaller improvements that deliver tangible value alongside larger initiatives.

This role operates as an individual contributor, partnering closely with Product Managers and reporting to a Product Team Lead.

Your Key Contributions

  • Own the day-to-day health of the product backlog for an assigned product or feature set — including authoring and refining user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation.
  • Partner with Product Managers to take ownership of epics and break them down into well-formed user stories that can be slotted into the team’s sprint cadence.
  • Organize and drive the Quick Wins pipeline for the assigned product area — surfacing smaller improvements, scoping them appropriately, and shepherding them through delivery.
  • Participate actively in sprint ceremonies (planning, refinement, review, retrospective) as the primary product voice to IT.
  • Tactically prioritize work within the sprint and near-term backlog, making routine trade-off decisions and escalating non-routine ones to the Product Manager or Product Team Lead.
  • Resolve routine execution exceptions — answering engineering questions, refining acceptance criteria, and unblocking story-level ambiguity during the sprint.
  • Validate that delivered work meets acceptance criteria and product intent before sign-off.
  • Maintain operational consistency in how product work is captured, refined, prioritized, and tracked, contributing to team standards and reducing rework.
  • Partner with PMO on sprint-level reporting, dependency tracking, and risk surfacing.
  • Engage with operational and end-user stakeholders to gather feedback, clarify needs, and validate that delivered work solves the intended problem.
  • Ensure work is delivered in a manner consistent with the firm’s regulatory, ethical, and data-handling obligations, escalating to the Product Manager or Legal/Compliance when in doubt.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of experience as a Product Owner, Project Manager, Business Analyst, or in a closely related role contributing to software delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience authoring user stories and acceptance criteria for software products.
  • Demonstrated experience working within an Agile/Scrum environment, including active participation in sprint ceremonies.
  • Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum frameworks and sprint-based software delivery.
  • Proficiency with product/backlog management tooling (e.g., Craft.io, Jira, Azure DevOps, or equivalent).
  • Strong written documentation skills, particularly user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Comfort working in close partnership with engineering teams on day-to-day execution.
  • Basic understanding of modern software delivery practices and the ability to engage substantively with engineering on story-level scope and trade-offs.
