Summary of the Role

The Communications Project Specialist holds primary responsibility to develop and execute strategic projects, identify target audiences, create and analyze campaigns using effective marketing strategies, and evaluate the success of campaigns that support Novo’s mission, goals and objectives.  The Specialist plays a crucial role in the success of communications strategies by clearly communicating Novo's voice to diverse audiences - making sure that the campaigns are as effective as possible - and oversees the work of project members, systems, and processes that influence audience growth and engagement efforts. 


This position requires exceptional communications, writing, and editing skills, strong donor-engagement experience, and the ability to manage complex communications strategies from planning through execution. 


Although this position is remote, the ideal candidate will have close proximity for in-person meetings at or near our office in Anaheim CA.  


Responsibilities 

  • Work with the Director to create and implement marketing and communication strategies, audience cultivation and segmentation strategies.
  • Provide strategic guidance and recommendations to support communications and marketing objectives, and identify opportunities to strengthen systems and integrations.
  • Develop and execute digital marketing strategies, translate organizational priorities into strategic communication and cultivation initiatives to increase Novo’s influence and audience growth across digital platforms and improve stakeholder engagement.
  • Oversee, write and/or edit, compelling content and messaging for diverse audiences that reflect Novo’s voice and move audiences toward meaningful action, and help translate high-level vision into coordinated execution across the team.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging across marketing and communications platforms and materials to support and strengthen Novo’s brand
  • Lead the selection, design, implementation, and ongoing management of effective processes and systems that improve the team’s effectiveness, collaboration, and ability to deliver excellent work on time. 
  • Manage outcomes through project management and workflows, ensuring the completion of projects from strategy through completion.
  • Adhere to established standards, best practices, and processes for content creation, quality control, delivery, and content repurposing. 
  • Measure and analyze digital marketing and campaign performance, oversee testing and experimentation, and translate results into strategic recommendations for ongoing improvement.
  • Supervise and provide professional development to Communications Team members as assigned by the Director.


Requirements and Skills: 

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform each essential duty with a high degree of competence. 

  • 2-3 years demonstrated success in digital marketing, communications strategy, audience development, and related fundraising methods, preferably in a ministry-related environment.
  • Significant project management experience with tools like Asana, Monday.com, Slack, etc., with demonstrated ability to bring structure to complex work, manage competing priorities, and drive projects through completion.
  • Strong strategic thinking and organizational judgment; able to understand the larger context, ask thoughtful questions, respectfully challenge assumptions, and identify opportunities or potential problems.
  • Exceptional copywriting and editing skills, with the ability to learn and steward Novo’s voice and develop compelling content that moves people to action.
  • Proficiency with email marketing, digital campaigns, audience segmentation, testing and optimization, marketing technology, and content management systems, as well as experience with communications marketing tools like Mailchimp, hubspot, etc. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret audience and campaign data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, organizational, and time-management skills, with strong initiative, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field preferred with equivalent relevant professional experience.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear.  This job is sedentary, requiring the ability to sit most of the time.  The ability to speak clearly and convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, and the ability to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information is necessary.  Repetitive motions requiring frequent movement using the wrists, hands, and fingers, and average and ordinary visual acuity is necessary to prepare or inspect documents or operate computers and office equipment.
