As a Product Designer at Tidepool, you will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, healthcare professionals and patients to design features that make meaningful contributions to the diabetes community. This role calls for a candidate with experience working on regulated medical devices and hardware / software interactions. This is a 1-year temporary full-time role, with an anticipated start date in October 2026.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Product Design
Lead design projects for Tidepool’s Automated Insulin Dosing (AID)System, Tidepool Loop, including designing hardware / software flows such as first-time pump/cgm setup, pump/cgm replacement and pump/cgm error states.
Lead design projects on Tidepool’s Data Management Platform across patient and clinician experiences, including device integrations, patient management dashboards, data visualizations, device connection workflows and more.
Across both product lines, translate broad need statements from patients into meaningful designs, balancing usability with safety regulations and technical considerations.
Partner with Clinical, Regulatory, and Quality teams to ensure design outputs meet risk and quality standards.
Communicate your data-informed vision and design rationale, that has users at the heart of it, to stakeholders and team members in a compelling way.
Partner closely with product, engineering and quality assurance engineers to drive design decisions and advocate for our users.
Solve a variety of product design challenges across iOS and Android experiences.
Support human factors activities, including formative usability studies and summative validation preparation in partnership with research and regulatory teams.
Develop deep understanding and empathy for people living with diabetes and healthcare providers and leverage that feedback to push for product refinement/improvement.
Product Thinking
We expect experienced product designers at Tidepool to work closely with product managers to craft experiences that have the intended impact on their users through novel feature discovery, feature enhancement or collaborative feature definition.
Work closely with the product manager to define new feature concepts and influence the product strategy by establishing product and feature priorities.
Proactively manage prioritization challenges with your product team to ensure design focus areas are aligned with business goals.
Comfortable taking on roles outside of traditional design, including product management.
Develop expertise in various diabetes hardware and software technologies in order to create impactful design solutions.
The ideal candidate:
5+ years of experience as a product designer or interaction designer or equivalent experience in visual design, experience design, etc.
You have a strong portfolio that demonstrates your practice of a design process solving problems for mobile and responsive web platforms.
Portfolio submission required to be considered. Please be sure to provide any necessary passwords, we cannot advance your application without them.
You have experience designing Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) for both Android and iOS products.
You have experience designing software solutions that interact directly with physical hardware.
You are enthusiastic and able to create design at a high strategic level and also pick up small design tasks focused on the details.
You have a strong knowledge of visual design fundamentals including layout, color, and typography.
You can work independently to explore concepts from beginning to end, yet also seek out feedback loops with your ideas.
You have experience working in Tidepool’s task management system, Jira, to conduct design reviews and leave design feedback for engineers.
You leverage AI prototyping tools to rapidly explore and communicate design concepts, while maintaining a human-in-the-loop approach to provide the essential taste, strategic judgment, and nuanced understanding of the patient/clinician experience to product design.
You have worked with product teams in highly-technical domains involving complex data and hardware constraints.
This is a contingent full-time 1-year role with a potential option to extend. The hourly rate for the role will range from $49.25 to $62.48. Due to the nature of being a short-term role, this is a benefits-ineligible position.
The desired start date is October 2026.
