As a Research Nurse supporting the Gynecologic Oncology team, you will coordinate and conduct human subject research studies while ensuring compliance with research protocols and regulatory requirements. In this role, you will screen, recruit, consent, and enroll patients into clinical trials, provide research-related nursing care, administer investigational treatments, monitor and report adverse events, and coordinate study visits, laboratory testing, imaging, and follow-up care. You will maintain regulatory and study documentation, prepare research-related EPIC orders, support trial activation and protocol updates, develop patient education materials, and assist with protocol feasibility reviews and research audits.

This position plays a key role in advancing gynecologic oncology research and improving patient outcomes through innovative clinical trials. Working closely with physicians and a multidisciplinary research team, you will help ensure the safe delivery of research protocols while providing compassionate, patient-centered care. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working remotely in Ohio between 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., 1-2 days a week.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Assist with coordinating the implementation and conduct of research projects while ensuring adherence to research protocol requirements.

• Complete and maintain regulatory documentation, FDA and sponsor forms, monitoring plans, study data, and Serious Adverse Event (SAE) reporting.

• Serve as a liaison between investigators, research personnel, sponsors, and research administration to support protocol interpretation, enrollment, and participant safety.

• Screen clinics for potential participants and recruit, consent, and enroll patients into gynecologic oncology clinical trials.

• Conduct and document the informed consent process.

• Utilize the nursing process to assess research participants, perform nursing assessments, document findings, and communicate abnormal results to physicians.

• Develop and coordinate individualized care plans with patients, families, and the research team, including discharge planning when appropriate.

• Provide nursing care to enrolled participants, including telephone triage, nursing procedures, treatments, and medication administration as ordered.

• Administer investigational treatments, monitor patient responses and side effects, assess adverse events, and communicate findings to physicians for treatment adjustments.

• Coordinate patient care activities, including scheduling laboratory tests, imaging, clinic visits, chemotherapy, and follow-up appointments.

• Perform follow-up phone calls to monitor adverse events and participant well-being.

• Prepare and manage study-related documentation, including Beacon EPIC orders, PRMC reviews, visit checklists, trial activation and amendment updates, and data entry.

• Assist with specialized research equipment and maintain standards of care consistent with Cleveland Clinic policies and research protocols.

• Direct, coordinate, and oversee nursing care provided to research participants, delegating responsibilities based on patient needs and staff qualifications.

• Develop patient education materials and provide education to infusion nursing staff related to research protocols.

• Review new study protocols for feasibility, prepare for sponsor and regulatory audits, and assist with research project budget development as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing  

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross 

• Four years of clinical experience  

• Two years of research experience  

• Understanding of the research process and terminology  

• In-depth knowledge of the specialty under investigation  

• Working knowledge of federal regulations and good clinical practice (GCP)  

• Meet clinical competency requirements  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)  

• Familiarity with Epic 

• Research experience at Cleveland Clinic

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

• Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
