About the Role

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer (P60) in the Rovo & AI engineering org to serve as the lead technical architect for our next-generation third-party (3P) connectors i.e. enterprise integrations. Our mission is to build, harden, and scale third-party connectors that reliably ingest enterprise knowledge, map complex access permissions, and feed high-fidelity signals to enhance Atlassian’s key AI experiences like Search, Chat and Agents under Rovo.

Responsibilities

• Lead Connector Architecture: Define the technical vision, architectural roadmap, and design principles for building, scaling, and modernizing third-party connectors across major SaaS ecosystems.

• Scale Ingestion & Data Freshness: Architect high-throughput data extraction and delta-sync pipelines to reliably process rich enterprise artifacts (documents, transcripts, chat threads, and activity signals) in near real-time.

• Standardize Execution & Runtimes: Partner with platform teams to drive standard orchestration and execution patterns by aligning connectors onto shared distributed task and scheduling architectures.

• Accelerate Engineering Craft via AI: Foster agentic and AI-assisted development workflows to boost developer productivity, test automation, and connector delivery speed.

• Enable Downstream AI Experiences: Collaborate with Search, Graph, and AI teams to structure and optimize third-party context for RAG retrieval, enterprise search, and agentic workflows.

• Operationalize Reliability & SLOs: Establish and enforce connector-level Service Level Objectives (SLOs), deep observability, and error budgets to ensure data freshness, sync completeness, and system resilience.

• Mentor & Provide Technical Guidance: Author high-impact technical designs, RFCs, and architecture reviews while actively mentoring and leveling up engineers across the team.

This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

Pay Ranges

In The United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

Zone A: $209,700 - $273,775

Zone B: $188,730 - $246,398

Zone C: $174,051 - $227,233

Qualifications

• Distributed Systems & Integration Mastery: Deep experience architecting, building, and operating high-throughput data ingestion, ETL pipelines, or SaaS integration services in production.

• Operational & Observability Rigor: Proven track record of managing distributed systems against strict SLOs, building comprehensive telemetry/tracing, and scaling operational readiness.

• Technical Leadership & Delivery: Demonstrated ability to lead technical vision across multiple concurrent connector workstreams, author high-impact RFCs/ADRs, and translate product strategy into robust technical execution.

• Cross-Functional Influence & Mentorship: Excellent communication skills with the ability to align with Product, Design, and platform engineering teams, while actively growing and coaching senior engineers.

Nice to have:

• Identity & Security: Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0 flows (3LO/2LO), service-to-service auth, enterprise directory structures (Entra ID / Active Directory), and complex ACL/permission mapping.

• Enterprise API & SaaS Ecosystem Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience integrating with major enterprise platforms navigating rate limits, pagination, webhooks, and delta sync APIs.
