Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director of Product Design, the Principal Product Designer will have primary product design responsibility for areas and projects for the enhancement and improvement of Great Minds software products.


Responsibilities

  • Utilize expert proficiency in software product design responsibilities relative to:

    • User research

    • User experience design

    • Visual design, and

    • Production-worthy HTML+CSS development, as needed

  • Weigh pros and cons and propose which design and research options to employ.

  • Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, product marketers, and others to identify key problems and solutions for the sake of Great Minds software users, both internal and external.

  • Co-lead and facilitate the product design thinking process with product management so the business prioritizes the right human problems to solve and co-lead the process of developing the user-facing solutions for users, incorporating the company and product brands appropriately and sufficiently.

  • Design delightful user flows and interactions that simplify the complex.

  • Serve as a thought leader and advocate for user experience.

  • Validate designs through user testing before launch to identify issues early on.

  • Review shipped features and identifies user experience improvements that can be made from data on usage (qualitative and quantitative).

  • Support the engineering team throughout the development process as they bring product designs to life.

  • Assist others with clearing their design and technical hurdles.

  • Take ownership by steering teams and their members in the right direction.

  • Collaborate to build, evolve, and refine the company’s design system, ensuring visual cohesion and engineering efficiency across all user touchpoints.

  • Take an active role in process improvements with the Product Design Director and other leaders.



Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience and mastery in the following:

    • User research, including user interviewing and user testing

    • User experience design, including Design Thinking methodologies

    • Visual design for the web, including modern tools like Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite

    • HTML and CSS development, with a dash of JavaScript to demonstrate dynamic designs to engineers

  • Mastery of industry-standard design software (e.g. Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, web code editors, browser developer tools, etc.)

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, related field, or an additional 4+ years of industry experience in software product design for external, commercial users (B2C, B2B, EdTech, etc.)

The expected base salary range for this position is $136,000-$151,000, however the offered salary may be higher or lower than the above range dependent on numerous factors including, but not limited to location, work experience, skills and internal equity considerations. The base salary is not inclusive of benefits or other incentives.
