We are seeking a Principal Power Consultant with an engineering and technical background to join our U.S. Power Project Services team.
This role focuses on providing technical advisory and due diligence services to investors, lenders, and project developers in support of M&A transactions and project financings across the power sector.
This role is ideal for professionals with prior exposure to power asset acquisitions, divestitures, or financing transactions, combined with experience in power generation, EPC execution, plant engineering, operations, asset management, or technical consulting. It is well suited for candidates who can quickly integrate into active assignments, contribute meaningfully with limited ramp-up, and, within a short period, take the lead on less complex engagements.

What You Will Do

Technical Due Diligence & Advisory

  • Evaluate new build and operating power assets, including technology selection, plant design, EPC and key project contracts, construction schedules, capital cost estimates, operations and maintenance strategies, cost structures, equipment condition, and plant performance.
  • Perform reviews of technical reports, engineering documentation, and project contracts, rapidly synthesizing complex information into clear, defensible, and decision-relevant conclusions for independent engineer reports.
  • Identify key technical risks, assess their potential impact on project value, and evaluate mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare technical due diligence reports, independent engineer reports, and lender advisory deliverables.

Project Execution & Leadership

  • Contribute immediately to live due diligence assignments and progressively take ownership of discrete workstreams or smaller engagements within the first several months.
  • Lead or support technical due diligence scopes under tight transaction timelines.
  • Coordinate inputs from multidisciplinary teams and synthesize findings into clear, concise client deliverables.
  • Conduct site visits, lead technical discussions, and interview plant personnel and project stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple concurrent assignments while maintaining high standards of quality and responsiveness.

Client Interaction

  • Present technical findings and recommendations to investors, lenders, and developers.
  • Translate complex technical issues into clear, structured insights that support decision-making.
  • Build credibility as a trusted advisor through both technical depth and clarity of communication.

Business Development

  • Support proposal preparation and contribute to the positioning of new opportunities.
  • Provide technical input into marketing efforts and client engagement activities.
  • Contribute industry knowledge and market insights to business development efforts.

What We Are Looking For

Core Experience

  • Experience in power generation or energy infrastructure, with backgrounds such as EPC execution or construction management, plant engineering or operations and maintenance, OEM or technology providers, or technical advisory/lender’s engineering.
  • Exposure to multiple phases of the project lifecycle, including design, construction, commissioning, and operations.

Technical Capabilities

  • Strong understanding of conventional power generation systems, including gas turbines, boilers, steam turbines, generators, and balance of plant equipment.
  • Familiarity with renewable technologies such as solar PV and/or wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), hydrogen-fired generation, or carbon capture is beneficial.
  • Ability to assess equipment condition and operational performance, O&M practices and long-term cost structures, and capital expenditure requirements for asset reliability.
  • Experience reviewing EPC contracts, O&M agreements, and long-term service agreements.

Analytical & Consulting Skillset

  • Strong technical writing skills, with demonstrated experience preparing clear, concise, and defensible technical due diligence reports, independent engineer reports, lender advisory reports, feasibility studies, or other client-facing technical deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and synthesize large volumes of technical, engineering, and contractual documentation into clear written conclusions for client-facing deliverables.
  • Ability to quickly identify material issues and key value drivers based on incomplete or evolving information.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, transaction-driven environment with minimal onboarding.

Interpersonal & Leadership Attributes

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage effectively with clients, developers, and multidisciplinary teams across geographies.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of workstreams and contribute to team delivery with increasing autonomy.
  • Comfortable working in environments where priorities shift quickly and deliverables are time-critical.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; advanced degree or MBA is a plus.
  • Typically 7+ years of professional experience, including a minimum of five (5) years within the power generation or energy infrastructure sector.
  • Prior consulting or transaction advisory experience is advantageous but not required.
  • Relevant experience may include construction management and commissioning with an EPC contractor; operations and maintenance, reliability, or asset management of power generation facilities; or engineering roles with direct exposure to project delivery, equipment evaluation, or plant performance.

Location & Travel

  • Based in Houston, TX; remote work may be considered.
  • Travel is an integral part of the role, typically 10–30%, including occasional international assignments.
  • Site visits are generally short duration, usually 1–5 days.
