Principal Platform Operations Data Ontology

Position Summary

Odyssey Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Operations Data Ontology providing support to the Command, Control, Communications (C3C)/Kessel Run division.

Kessel Run is an Air Force unit that delivers resilient command and control and targeting software capabilities that provide warfighters with decision advantage. Under the Department of the Air Force Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communication, and Battle Management (DAF PEO C3BM), Kessel Run technologies make up the DAF BATTLE NETWORK, the systems-of-systems designed to help the Joint Force make operational decisions faster than our adversaries. The Division architects and acquires the means to connect weapon systems with warfighters and decision makers to enable the warfighter to win against the pacing challenge in an era of great power competition.

This is a full time remote position.

Responsibilities

Focus on ontology methodology and semantic knowledge graphing, Department of Defense metadata standards, and operationalization of ontologies within enterprise data solutions. 

Duties include, but not limited to: 

• Apply Department of Defense ontology principles and standards to existing and future semantic models and taxonomies.
• Collaborate with appropriate subject matter and technical experts to design conceptual frameworks defining complex data relationships, entities, and conceptual logic.
• Create and maintain authoritative specifications using languages such as OWL, RDF, etc.
• Support implementation and operationalization of ontologies within warfighting systems.
• Ensure accurate data transformation within operational systems with the use of written queries and validations tools.
• Act as liaison between C3C and enterprise data councils and working groups, advocating for standardized data models, AI readiness, and semantic interoperability.
• Analyze emerging mission requirements to continuously expand and adapt ontologies and data models.
• Support C3C data artifact curation and governance within enterprise tooling, including data catalogs and message transformation service layers.
• Collaboration with many different roles across from mission domains and technical SMEs.
• Support and definition of the first formal ontologies within the broader DAF Battle Network.

Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: Must have Top Secret Security Clearance and be SCI eligible

Preferred Qualifications

Clearance: TS/SCI

Education: BA/BS

Years of experience: 7 years of directly related experience of which must be in the DoD

Technical Skills

• Ontology languages and frameworks: OWL (Web Ontology Language), RDF (Resource Description Framework), RDFS (RDF Schema)
• Ontology standards: BFO (Basic Formal Ontology), CCO (Common Core Ontology), DIEKM (Defense Intelligence Enterprise Knowledge Model), etc.
• Query languages: SQL, SPARQL, etc.
• Ontology editor tools, such as Protégé
• General understanding of physical data structures and representation (relational and nonrelational databases)
