AI Summary

You will own the end-to-end delivery of high-impact Core IT programs and define the problem space for complex, cross-functional organizational issues. Additionally, you will act as a trusted advisor to IT leadership while establishing frameworks and standards for requirements and process design.

Who we are

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.

Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

About the role:

Samsara's Core IT team builds the systems, processes, and experiences that let every team at Samsara do its best work. As a Principal Business Systems Analyst, you'll own the programs with the broadest scope and highest impact on the team. These are the ambiguous, cross-functional problems that touch multiple systems and multiple stakeholders, and that shape how Core IT operates going forward. You'll work directly with senior IT leadership and stakeholders across the business, and your frameworks and judgment will set the standard other analysts learn from.

This role is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US except Alaska, Austin Metro, Boulder Metro, California, Chicago Metro, Connecticut, Dallas Metro, Denver Metro, Houston Metro, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Seattle Metro, and Washington, D.C.. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world. Your work will have real-world impact: helping keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and keep workers safe on the job.
  • You want to own problems, not just execute against ones someone else already scoped. At this level, you'll define the problem space for some of Core IT's most significant and ambiguous issues, and the frameworks and standards you build will be what other analysts learn from.
  • You’re energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.
  • You want to keep growing. If you put in the work, this won't be your last role at Samsara. We've built a culture that rewards fast development and gives people real room to master their craft as the company keeps growing.
  • You want colleagues who make you better. You'll work alongside people who support each other's work, push each other to think more rigorously, and share the credit when something goes well.

In this role, you will:

  • Own end-to-end delivery of Core IT's highest-impact projects and programs, from problem definition through implementation, across multiple systems and business domains.
  • Define the problem space on the organization's most significant and ambiguous issues, rather than solving problems that are already scoped, and advise IT leadership on how to think about entire classes of problems, not just the issue in front of them.
  • Build the requirements practices, frameworks, and standards that other analysts and the broader team adopt, raising the bar for how Core IT approaches requirements, process design, and systems thinking.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to IT leadership and senior stakeholders across the business on organizational design, systems architecture, and process strategy.
  • Manage IT's engagement with the rest of the business on the programs you own: gathering requirements, coordinating resources, planning timelines, and communicating with stakeholders.
  • Drive operational excellence: develop a deep understanding of IT engineering, support, and operations (financials, services, performance metrics, SLAs, and so on) and work with IT management to provide the context that drives decision-making.
  • Develop, evaluate, and refine business processes, and propose improvement strategies that scale across the organization.
  • Mentor other analysts and engineers, and help them grow into the next level of scope and independence.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 10+ years of business systems analysis, strategy, or architecture experience at a large-scale organization.
  • Deep expertise in requirements strategy, organizational design, systems thinking, and process optimization, with mastery of the analytical disciplines behind them: data analysis, process optimization, and requirements architecture.
  • A demonstrated track record advising senior leadership on complex, strategic decisions, including experience with large-scale organizational transformation or system architecture decisions.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Excellent influence skills: the ability to build trust and move decisions forward with stakeholders and teams that don't report to you, from individual contributors to executive leadership.
  • Strong analytical rigor and the communication skills to bring senior stakeholders along, in writing and in the room.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex, concurrent programs end-to-end, with full independent judgment on how to structure and staff them.
  • Strong data management and analysis skills (Google Sheets/Excel, Splunk, and similar tools).
  • Experience with corporate security and compliance programs: operating internal controls, preparing evidence for audits, and ensuring proper data handling in response to requests under SOX, FedRAMP, GDPR, CCPA, or similar privacy regulations.
