Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models to meet business requirements. Integrate Python for advanced data processing and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure reliable delivery of insights.
Job Title: Power BI Developer
Location: Remote
Work Hours: EST (Eastern Standard Time) aligned
Experience: 6–9 years
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Power BI Developer to design, develop, enhance, and support enterprise-grade Power BI solutions. The role focuses on building high-quality, scalable dashboards and semantic models, optimizing existing reports, and ensuring reliable delivery of insights to business stakeholders. The ideal candidate should also be comfortable integrating Python for advanced data processing, analytics, and automation within the Power BI ecosystem. You will work closely with data, analytics, and business teams in a remote, EST-aligned environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and interactive visualizations that meet business requirements.
Build and optimize Power BI semantic models (datasets), including data modeling, DAX measures, relationships, and performance tuning.
Connect to and transform data from multiple sources (SQL databases, cloud data warehouses, APIs, Excel, SharePoint, etc.) using Power Query (M language).
Integrate Python scripts for advanced data transformation, statistical analysis, or custom processing within Power Query and Power BI workflows.
Enhance and support existing Power BI solutions — improve performance, fix issues, implement enhancements, and ensure data accuracy.
Implement best practices for row-level security (RLS), workspace governance, and report distribution (apps, subscriptions, embedding).
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and iterate based on feedback.
Optimize report and dataset performance (query reduction, aggregation tables, incremental refresh, composite models where applicable).
Document data models, measures, Python scripts, and report logic for maintainability and knowledge sharing.
Stay updated with Power BI and related Python capabilities and recommend improvements to existing solutions and development standards.
Participate in peer reviews and contribute to team coding/modeling standards.
Required Qualifications
6–9 years of overall experience in BI/Analytics, with strong hands-on experience in Power BI development.
Advanced proficiency in DAX (complex measures, time intelligence, filter context, variables, and optimization).
Strong skills in Power Query (M language) for data transformation and shaping.
Hands-on experience integrating Python with Power BI (Python scripts in Power Query, Python visuals, or external Python-based data processing pipelines).
Solid understanding of data modeling concepts (star/snowflake schema, relationships, cardinality, normalization vs. denormalization).
Experience with Power BI Service (workspaces, apps, gateways, scheduled refresh, deployment pipelines).
Proven ability to design clean, user-friendly, and performance-optimized reports and dashboards.
Experience working with relational databases (SQL Server, Azure SQL, or similar) and writing efficient SQL.
Working knowledge of Python (pandas, data manipulation, basic scripting) for data processing and integration with Power BI.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot data, performance, and visualization issues independently.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote, EST-aligned team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Power BI Premium / Fabric capacity features (deployment pipelines, XMLA endpoints, large datasets, aggregation tables).
Familiarity with Azure Analysis Services, Analysis Services Tabular, or Microsoft Fabric.
Knowledge of data governance, sensitivity labels, and enterprise security practices in Power BI.
Experience using Python for advanced analytics, statistical modeling, or automation in conjunction with Power BI.
Exposure to version control (Git) and ALM practices for Power BI artifacts and related Python scripts.
Background in working with cross-functional teams in a remote or distributed setup.
