Based in Williamsburg, VA, DataXstream stands as a proud and dedicated SAP partner with over two decades of experience. We are relentlessly focused on innovating, rebuilding, and perfecting the most robust and user-friendly Order Management software available for the SAP ecosystem. As we continue to grow our impact and our team, we're seeking passionate individuals to join us in shaping the future of enterprise solutions.
Platform & Internal Systems Engineer
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Auditing tooling — building and maintaining the components that provide visibility, traceability, and audit trails across the DataXstream BTP platform
- Infrastructure as Code — writing and maintaining IaC definitions for BTP resources; provisioning, change tracking, and full auditability of every environment DataXstream operates
- Secrets management components — building the SAP Credential Store and Azure Key Vault integrations that eliminate plain-text credentials across local development, CI/CD, and cloud and on-premises workloads
- Internal platform tooling — engineering the components and automation that reduce manual work across CPE, including provisioning tooling and internal build needs as directed by the Platform Architect and CPE leadership
- SAP Cloud Logging Service (CLS) migrations — executing and documenting CLS onboarding across internal and customer environments to establish consistent observability and alerting on BTP
- CI/CD collaboration with DevOps — working closely with the DevOps team on pipeline design, build automation, and deployment workflows for BTP-hosted workloads
- AI Foundation support — providing supporting engineering capacity to the AI Foundation initiative on BTP as needed
- Customer BTP workload support — flexing to assist the Customer Delivery Engineer on BTP customer environments when needed
- Participation in CPE on-call rotation for internal platform incident response
How You'll Grow
This role is designed with a deliberate ramp. In your first months, you will focus on well-scoped build work — auditing components, IaC definitions, secrets management integrations — working closely with the Platform Architect and CPE leadership on every decision. All platform decisions are made collaboratively; nothing ships without alignment from the PA and CPE leadership.
As you build familiarity with the DataXstream platform, its engineering standards, and the downstream impact of changes, your scope of ownership expands. The path is from contributor to platform engineer — and the team is invested in getting you there.
Cross-Coverage Responsibilities
DataXstream is committed to eliminating single points of failure across the CPE team. This role is expected to develop working knowledge of the Customer Delivery Engineer's domain sufficient to provide continuity during absence.
- BTP customer delivery awareness — understanding of customer BTP subaccount environments and ability to assist with common delivery and support tasks
- Customer-facing communication basics — ability to engage with customers professionally during escalations when the Customer Delivery Engineer is unavailable
Must-Have Skills and Qualifications
- Foundational interest in platform and infrastructure engineering — you are drawn to how systems are built, automated, and operated, not just used
- Any exposure to SAP BTP, Kubernetes, or cloud platform concepts through coursework, personal projects, or early professional experience — we build BTP expertise on the job
- Interest in infrastructure automation and IaC — you find defining infrastructure as code genuinely compelling
- Exposure to CI/CD pipeline concepts: how code gets built, tested, and deployed
- Familiarity with identity and authentication concepts: OAuth, OIDC, or SAML — even at a conceptual level
- Comfort reading technical documentation and working through unfamiliar systems independently
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation for platform incident response
- Documentation-first mindset — you write things down as you figure them out
- Fluent English level
What We Value
- Depth — you want to understand the full system, not just the piece you were handed
- Initiative — you investigate before escalating, and you come back with what you found
- Precision — platform work has downstream consequences; you double-check your changes
- Growth mindset — SAP BTP, Kyma, and MCP are not common skills; we expect to build them together
- Collaboration — internal platform changes affect everyone; you communicate clearly before and after
Nice to Have
- Any SAP BTP exposure — Cloud Foundry, BTP Cockpit, CIS, XSUAA, or BTP services
- Kyma exposure — any familiarity with Kyma runtime, Kubernetes, or container-based platforms is a meaningful plus
- Familiarity with secrets management concepts or tooling: SAP Credential Store, Azure Key Vault, HashiCorp Vault, or equivalent
- IaC tooling exposure: Terraform, Ansible, or similar
- Exposure to CAB or change process management — familiarity with change advisory board processes or structured change management is a plus given the downstream impact of platform changes
- Exposure to observability platforms: logging, tracing, or alerting tools
- Interest in AI tooling and the Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Personal cloud projects, homelab environments, or open-source contributions
- Familiarity with Atlassian tools — Jira for task and project management, Bitbucket for source control, and Bamboo for CI/CD pipelines
- Experience using company-approved AI tools to increase personal productivity and engineering efficiency
