Provide evidence-based medical evaluation and treatment for children and adolescents with weight-related health concerns via virtual care. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including dietitians and behavioral health clinicians to deliver coordinated, longitudinal care.

About Tailwind Care

Tailwind Care is building a better way to care for kids and teens with metabolic health concerns through a family-centered model. Too often, families are left to navigate fragmented care, long waitlists, and a system that treats medical, nutritional, and behavioral needs separately.

We bring medical care, nutrition, and behavioral health together in one coordinated, evidence-based program, covered by insurance. Our goal is to help kids and teens build healthier lives, with care that’s practical, compassionate, and built around the whole family.

About the role

As a Pediatrician at Tailwind Care, you’ll provide evidence-based medical evaluation and treatment to children and adolescents with obesity and weight-related health concerns through virtual care.

You’ll assess new patients, develop individualized treatment plans, evaluate and manage weight-related medical conditions, and provide ongoing follow-up as patients progress. You’ll work closely with registered dietitians, behavioral health clinicians, and care coordinators as part of a multidisciplinary care team.

As a 1099 independent contractor with Tailwind Care, you will not be eligible for employee benefits, including health insurance or paid time off. Tailwind will provide services to support your practice, such as patient matching, billing, and administrative support.

What you’ll own

  • Evaluate and plan. Conduct comprehensive evaluations of new patients, including history, growth trajectory, labs, medications, and comorbidities, and develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans based on clinical needs and family goals.

  • Manage weight-related conditions and medications. Address comorbidities, order and interpret labs, and prescribe and manage medications when clinically indicated, including FDA-approved obesity management medications for eligible patients.

  • Deliver respectful, stigma-free care. Discuss obesity and weight-related health concerns with children and families in a clinically direct, culturally responsive, and non-stigmatizing way, while recognizing obesity as a chronic disease.

  • Provide longitudinal follow-up. Monitor progress, medication response, side effects, and labs, adjusting treatment as patients progress.

  • Coordinate care. Work with Tailwind’s dietitians, behavioral health clinicians, and care coordinators, as well as patients’ primary care and referring clinicians, to keep care connected.

  • Keep records that hold up. Complete timely, accurate documentation supporting continuity of care, medical necessity, and payer requirements.

What makes this role different

  • Your hours are guaranteed. Most telehealth platforms pay per visit and guarantee nothing. We reserve a weekly block and pay all of it while we fill your schedule.

  • Practice as part of a multidisciplinary team. Medical care is integrated with nutrition, behavioral health, and care coordination rather than delivered in isolation.

  • Provide longitudinal care. You’ll build relationships with patients and families over time rather than providing episodic or one-time consultations.

  • Partner with parents and caregivers. Families are an active part of care, helping support sustainable changes in routines, behaviors, and health over time.

  • Spend less time on non-clinical admin. Credentialing, billing, technology, and care coordination are on us, so you spend time working with patients and families.

  • Treat the whole child. Our approach considers medical health, nutrition, behavior, family dynamics, and the child’s broader environment rather than focusing narrowly on a number on the scale.

Who you are

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO, board certified in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine/Pediatrics (Med-Peds)

  • Active, unrestricted Texas medical license

  • Eligible for an IMLC Letter of Qualification through your State of Principal License

  • Willing to obtain additional state licenses as needed (Tailwind covers licensing costs)

  • 3+ years of outpatient pediatric experience

  • Experience evaluating and treating children or adolescents with overweight or obesity

  • Experience prescribing and managing obesity management medications, including GLP-1 medications

  • Consistent weekly availability for scheduled patient visits

  • Experience and comfort delivering care via telehealth

Nice to have

  • Existing licensure in multiple states, or an IMLC Letter of Qualification already in hand

  • Active DEA registration

  • Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM), or actively pursuing ABOM certification

  • Experience caring for Medicaid-insured populations

  • Spanish or other non-English language proficiency

Schedule & commitment

Schedule: Part-time and fully remote in consistent weekly blocks. Initially we are looking for 12 hours a week from 3-7 pm on two weekdays and 9-1 pm on Saturdays. Hours will then grow with patient volume and your availability.

Patient care: Virtual visits with children, adolescents, and parents, together or individually.

Between sessions: Async follow-up (patient messages, lab review, medication questions) and care team coordination are all paid. Tailwind is not a crisis service, and all visits are scheduled.

  • Paid orientation to Tailwind’s systems, clinical protocols, and workflows

  • All state licensing, credentialing, and payer enrollment, paid by Tailwind

  • EHR, telehealth technology, scheduling, and care coordination support
