Part-Time Adjunct Faculty – Nursing Success Coach

The Part-Time Adjunct Faculty – Nursing Success Coach is a remote, part-time faculty role within the School of Nursing that supports student progression, course success, remediation completion, and NCLEX readiness. Reporting to the appropriate Department Chair or academic leader, this position works with instructional faculty, School of Nursing leadership, academic support units, and student support services to provide structured, data-informed coaching for nursing students experiencing academic or progression challenges.

Nursing Success Coaches engage students through scheduled coaching appointments, virtual office hours, small-group remediation, NCLEX-style question review, and study-skills support. They document student participation and progress, reinforce available academic resources, and contribute to engagement and retention efforts that promote persistence and academic achievement. The Nursing Success Coach provides academic coaching and support within established course and program expectations and does not independently modify course requirements, grading decisions, or progression requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

• Provide individualized academic coaching to nursing students identified through performance data, standardized assessment results, faculty referral, student self-referral, or other approved early-alert criteria.
• Use student performance indicators to identify needs for targeted academic support, remediation, or NCLEX readiness coaching.
• Facilitate coaching appointments, virtual office hours, small-group workshops, and academic support sessions focused on study strategies, test-taking skills, time management, clinical judgment, critical thinking, content review, and NCLEX-style question analysis.
• Support students in developing individualized success plans with clear goals, action steps, timelines, and follow-up expectations.
• Track coaching participation, remediation completion, progress toward success-plan goals, and other assigned student success indicators.
• Collaborate with instructional faculty to reinforce course expectations, support consistent remediation practices, and communicate student progress or concerns appropriately.
• Conduct NCLEX-style question review sessions and remediation activities aligned with course outcomes, program expectations, ATI resources, and student learning needs.
• Refer students to appropriate University resources, including academic advising, tutoring, accessibility services, library resources, wellness supports, or other services as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate documentation of coaching contacts, student progress, remediation activities, and outcomes using designated University systems or tracking tools.
• Provide trends, summaries, and recommendations to School of Nursing leadership as requested to support evaluation of student success initiatives.
• Complete University-required training, attend required pre-term or program meetings, and follow University policies, School of Nursing expectations, and applicable Faculty Handbook requirements.
• Respond to student and University communications within expected timelines.
• Cultivate a caring, inclusive, and student-centered environment that supports open dialogue, collaboration, accountability, and academic growth.
• Maintain confidentiality and safeguard student records consistent with FERPA, University policy, and applicable privacy requirements.
• Maintain sufficient scheduling availability to support student engagement and accessibility.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution required; doctoral or terminal degree in nursing or a related field preferred.
• Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license required; New York Registered Nurse licensure or willingness to apply for New York State licensure preferred.
• Experience in nursing education, academic coaching, student success, remediation, NCLEX preparation, or related student support work preferred.
• Strong understanding of nursing curriculum, clinical judgment development, NCLEX test plans, standardized testing strategies, and evidence-informed academic support practices.
• Experience with learning management systems, educational technology, video conferencing tools, standardized assessment platforms, and student performance data preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information clearly, accurately, and supportively.
• Ability to distinguish academic coaching and support from instructional, grading, progression, and other academic decisions that remain the responsibility of instructional faculty and academic leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with adult, online, nontraditional, and diverse student populations.
• Ability to manage multiple student contacts, maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and follow established communication and documentation expectations.

Compensation

Compensation for serving as a Part-Time Adjunct Faculty – Nursing Success Coach is $4,000 per eight-week term assignment. The term assignment includes an established student caseload and expected coaching, documentation, communication, and support activities as defined by the School of Nursing. Payments are processed on a bi-weekly payroll cycle beginning with the next feasible pay period after the close of late registration or the start of the assigned coaching period, as applicable.
