Responsible for field staff involved in the development, management and maintenance of business relationships with service providers contracted for pickup and delivery and linehaul services within an assigned geographic territory. Essential Functions

  • Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to: hiring, terminations, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, performance management and staff productivity.
  • Plans, organizes, staffs, directs and controls the day-to-day operations of the department; develops and implements policies and programs as necessary.
  • Develops and manages the department budget; ensures compliance and addresses variances and other budget concerns.
  • Ensures field staff are subject matter experts who consistently interpret, implement and administer contracted service provider agreements and oversees FedEx Ground’s relationships with contracted service providers.
  • Partners with stakeholders to determine response strategies for capacity planning needs and contingencies.
  • Directs all staff to participate and remain abreast of all required and developmental training. Facilitates disqualification (DQ) process; reviews and approves, if warranted, driver disqualifications.
  • Oversees station assessments; facilitate forums, summits and events within assigned district.
  • Monitors contracted service provider metrics for assigned territory, plans for contingencies and growth and presents to field staff.
  • Ensures necessary communications with service providers are documented in timely and appropriate manner.
  • Engages with Investigations team on issues and disputes between contracted service providers and the company and takes actions to ensure that the territory does not have repeat occurrences.
  • Ensures resolution of CDAS procedural help ticket issues completed by district staff.
  • Directs new initiatives and program changes within BDS function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Human Resources or related discipline required.

Related experience may offset degree requirements and related education/degree may offset experience requirements.

Minimum Experience

Eight (8) years’ progressive management experience required in managing service provider relationships, vendor management, linehaul and/or in field operations management roles with at least one (1) of those years in an Operation’s Senior Manager, District Manager or PGH functional manager role required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications.
  • Excellent Verbal and written communication skills necessary to explain complex and/or confidential information to all levels of management and outside business contacts.
  • Demonstrated understanding of linehaul and pickup and delivery operations.
  • Exceptional business acumen and understanding of entrepreneurial businesses.
  • Strong presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals.
  • Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs.
  • Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions.
  • Ability to inspire a shared vision and empower and motivate a team.
  • Ability to mentor, coach and act as a knowledge resource to other employees.
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships with internal and external customers and meet time sensitive deadlines.
