McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational resources, is looking for a Metadata Manager that designs and implements metadata strategies to optimize content discoverability, organization, and accessibility across MH platforms. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, the Metadata Manager ensures metadata standards align with industry best practices and support enterprise-wide content management goals. Additionally, the Metadata Manager plays a key role in maintaining metadata integrity, developing guidelines, and training content-related stakeholders on metadata implementation and usage.

 

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

 

What you will be doing:   

  • Support and maintain metadata schemas, taxonomies, and ontologies to ensure consistent organization and discoverability of MH content across platforms.
  • Collaborate with product teams, content creators, and developers to implement metadata strategies that enhance user experience and support business objectives.
  • Train stakeholders, including authors and vendors, on metadata best practices and tools through live sessions, video tutorials, and documentation.
  • Conduct audits to ensure metadata accuracy, compliance with accessibility standards, and alignment with industry best practices.
  • Support the integration of metadata into MH’s digital tools and workflows, working closely with TPMs and developers to ensure seamless functionality.
  • Stay informed on advancements in metadata standards, digital content management systems, and related technologies to implement innovative solutions that maintain MH’s competitive edge.
  • Provide expertise to curriculum, platform, and content teams by creating metadata-driven solutions, product samplers, and POCs. Represent MH’s metadata expertise at trade shows, conferences, and sales meetings as needed.

 

We’re looking for someone with: 

  • Educational background of a Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent experience), with an advanced degree preferred — ideally an MA in Information Science, Metadata Management, or a related discipline.
  • 3–7 years of experience in metadata management, taxonomy development, or related fields, preferably within the education or publishing industry.
  • Hands-on experience with metadata tools and CMS platforms, with at least 5 years preferred, demonstrating the ability to manage and implement content strategies at scale.
  • Proficiency in training and enabling teams to adopt and implement metadata strategies, tools, and best practices effectively.
  • Experience with AI and LLMs, including at least 2 years (preferred) of designing prompts, evaluating outputs, and identifying bias using industry-standard large language models.
  • Technical literacy including a basic understanding of HTML tags and CSS properties, along with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and their practical application to metadata strategies, ensuring inclusive and compliant content practices.
  • Flexibility for travel of up to 25% of the time, as required by the role.

The pay range for this position is between $108,175 - $120,000 annually. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
