The Medical Records Specialist manages the collection, organization, and maintenance of medical documentation to support billing, coding, and claims processes. They are responsible for reviewing records for completeness, tracking documentation requests, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA privacy standards.
Raventra Health is a medical services company providing outsourced billing, coding, and claims processing solutions for provider groups and hospitals. As a Medical Records Specialist, you will manage the collection, organization, and maintenance of medical documentation needed to support billing, coding, claims, and authorization processes. You will work with provider teams and internal RCM specialists to ensure required records are complete, accurate, and available when needed.
Request and collect medical records and supporting documentation from provider clients
Review records for completeness and ensure required documentation is available for billing, coding, and claims processing
Organize and maintain electronic medical records in accordance with established procedures
Track outstanding documentation requests and follow up with provider teams as needed
Route medical records and supporting documents to the appropriate billing, coding, authorization, or claims team
Identify missing, inconsistent, or incomplete documentation and communicate issues to the appropriate stakeholders
Maintain accurate records of documentation requests, receipt status, and follow-up activities
Support record retrieval for claim appeals, audits, and other revenue cycle activities
Handle protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and company privacy procedures
1+ year of experience in medical records, health information management, medical administration, or a related healthcare role
Experience working with electronic medical records or health information systems
Understanding of medical terminology and common healthcare documentation
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify missing or inconsistent information
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple documentation requests and deadlines
Ability to communicate effectively with provider teams and internal stakeholders
Strong understanding of confidentiality and appropriate handling of protected health information
Ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote environment
HIPAA-compliant private workspace
Experience with Epic, Athena, eClinicalWorks, or another major EMR system
RHIT or RHIA certification
Health Information Management or Medical Records training
Experience supporting medical billing, coding, prior authorization, or claims appeals
Experience working with provider groups or hospitals
