Job Summary
RCM Staff BPO is hiring a part-time Medical Billing Specialist to support a behavioral health practice.
The specialist will handle the day-to-day billing cycle for the practice, including claim submission, payment posting, denial follow-up, and accounts receivable work inside IntakeQ (PracticeQ). This role requires hands-on U.S. medical billing experience and the ability to own a small practice's billing end to end, such as strong attention to detail, consistent follow-up, and experience working with U.S. health insurance plans.
Key Responsibilities
Review completed visits and submit clean claims to insurance payers through IntakeQ (PracticeQ) and the clearinghouse
Verify patient eligibility and benefits before visits and flag coverage issues to the practice
Post insurance payments, adjustments, and patient payments from ERAs and EOBs
Work claim rejections and denials, correct and resubmit claims, and file appeals when appropriate
Follow up on unpaid and aging claims with payers by portal and phone
Track authorizations and visit limits for behavioral health services and alert the practice before they run out
Prepare and send patient statements and respond to patient billing questions professionally
Keep billing notes and account activity documented so the practice and RCM Staff can review status at any time
Report weekly on claims submitted, payments posted, open denials, and outstanding A/R
Protect patient information and follow HIPAA requirements
Qualifications
At least 2 years of experience in U.S. medical billing
Hands-on experience with claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and A/R follow-up
Familiarity with commercial insurance and government health plans
Experience using payer portals and insurance websites
Strong written and spoken English
Excellent attention to detail and follow-up skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple patient accounts
Reliable internet connection and a suitable remote workspace
Preferred Qualifications
Experience billing for behavioral health, psychiatry, or mental health practices
Experience using IntakeQ or PracticeQ
Experience with psychotherapy and psychiatric evaluation and medication management codes
Schedule
Part-time position, 20 hours per week
Must be available during Eastern Time business hours; a fixed daily block will be agreed on at hire
Final schedule will be determined based on practice needs
