Marine Sustainment Lead

The Defense Sector at Leidos, supporting the Maritime Readiness Division, is seeking a Marine Sustainment lead to support a dynamic high growth organization. The Marine Sustainment lead will work remotely and support a wide variety of manned and unmanned vessels across numerous programs.

The Marine Sustainment Lead is responsible for the leadership and execution of shore-based sustainment functions supporting vessel operations, maintenance, and mission readiness. This position manages personnel responsible for procurement, subcontract administration, access management, warehouse operations, inventory control, and subcontracted Steward’s Department personnel. The Marine Sustainment Lead establishes priorities, coordinates resources, monitors performance, and ensures materials, services, personnel, and support functions are available when required to meet vessel maintenance schedules and operational commitments. The role works closely with program leadership, vessel personnel, maintenance teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and customers to resolve sustainment issues while maintaining cost, schedule, contractual, and operational requirements.

The Marine Sustainment Lead provides day-to-day leadership of a multidisciplinary sustainment organization, driving efficient purchasing, material sourcing, receiving, storage, inventory accountability, vendor performance, and subcontracted service delivery. The position identifies supply chain and resource risks, develops corrective actions, tracks sustainment performance, and continually improves processes that support asset availability and mission execution. Serving as a key interface between maritime operations and program support functions, the Marine Sustainment Lead ensures shore-side activities remain aligned with vessel priorities while promoting accountability, compliance, safety, and effective stewardship of program resources.

Primary Responsibilities

• Report to Logistics Platform Manager for vessel operations across programs

• Lead and manage personnel responsible for procurement, subcontract administration, access management, warehouse operations, inventory control, and subcontracted Steward’s Department support.

• Lead a team of operations coordinators who are responsible for Leidos homeports across programs

• Plan and oversee procurement of parts, materials, supplies, equipment, and services required to support vessel maintenance, sustainment, and operational readiness.

• Coordinate subcontract activities, including scope execution, vendor performance, schedule alignment, cost control, and resolution of subcontractor performance issues.

• Manage vessel husbanding requirements through subcontracted local agents, including coordination of port services, transportation, waste removal, potable water, provisions, berthing support, local logistics, and other port-specific vessel requirements.

• Serve as the primary interface with local husbanding agents to ensure required services are arranged, properly authorized, executed on schedule, and aligned with vessel arrival, departure, and mission requirements.

• Coordinate with vessel leadership, Port Captains, maintenance personnel, and program management to identify upcoming sustainment requirements and ensure timely delivery of materials and services.

• Oversee warehouse operations, including receiving, inspection, storage, issue, material movement, and accountability of program-owned inventory.

• Establish and maintain effective inventory control processes to ensure accurate records, appropriate stock levels, material traceability, and availability of critical spares.

• Monitor material lead times, supply constraints, vendor performance, and logistics risks; develop mitigation strategies to prevent impacts to vessel schedules and mission commitments.

• Lead access management activities for employees, subcontractors, vendors, and visitors requiring access to vessels, facilities, shipyards, or other controlled work locations.

• Manage and coordinate subcontracted Steward’s Department personnel to ensure adequate staffing and effective delivery of food service, housekeeping, habitability, and related vessel support services.

• Coordinate crew and vessel logistics, including transportation, lodging, deliveries, equipment movement, and other shore-side support requirements as needed.

• Ensure procurement, warehouse, inventory, subcontract, and sustainment activities are performed in accordance with contract requirements, company procedures, customer expectations, and applicable quality and safety standards.

• Track sustainment costs, commitments, material expenditures, subcontractor performance, and other key performance indicators to support program cost and schedule objectives.

• Develop and implement standardized sustainment processes, procedures, metrics, and reporting methods to improve efficiency, accountability, and material readiness.

• Identify operational and supply-chain risks, lead corrective actions, and escalate issues that could affect vessel availability, maintenance execution, or mission readiness.

• Maintain effective relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, husbanding agents, shipyards, government customers, and internal stakeholders to ensure responsive support to vessel operations.

• Provide leadership, mentoring, workload prioritization, and performance oversight for the sustainment team while fostering accountability and continuous process improvement.

• Support vessel deployments, maintenance availabilities, emergent repairs, port calls, and other operational events requiring coordinated logistics and shore-side sustainment support.

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ Years of Managing Vessel Operations

• Experience coordinating and procuring shoreside services for vessels

• Experience with subcontractor management

• Position requires the ability to perform in an arduous duty environment.

• Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent

• PMP Certification

• Ability to lift 40lbs

• Must be able to communicate effectively

• Must be a US Citizen

• Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating in a joint, Department of Defense, Military Sealift Command, U.S. Navy, or similarly complex maritime environment is highly desirable.

• Master’s Degree
