The Manager of Transportation Procurement is responsible for developing and managing a high-performing carrier network to support customer transportation needs. This role focuses on carrier sourcing, procurement strategy, capacity management, rate negotiations, and carrier performance. The Manager of Transportation Procurement will ensure reliable, cost-effective transportation solutions while maintaining compliance, service excellence, and strong carrier relationships
Position Responsibilities:
Develop and execute carrier procurement strategies to secure truckload, LTL, intermodal, and specialized transportation capacity.
Build and maintain relationships with asset-based carriers and transportation providers.
Source new carriers and negotiate competitive rates, service agreements, and long-term partnerships.
Monitor market trends, capacity fluctuations, and industry conditions to proactively secure transportation capacity.
Manage carrier utilization and optimize network coverage to support customer requirements.
Establish performance goals, KPIs, and accountability measures for the procurement team.
Conduct regular performance reviews, training, and career development planning.
Foster a culture focused on customer service, carrier engagement, and operational excellence.
Serve as the primary escalation point for key carrier relationships.
Develop strategic partnerships with preferred and dedicated carriers.
Collaborate with sales and operations teams to support customer bids, RFPs, and pricing opportunities.
Ensure all carriers meet company onboarding requirements, insurance standards, safety ratings, and regulatory compliance.
Monitor and report carrier KPIs and develop corrective action plans when performance expectations are not met.
