Position Overview:

The Manager of Content Operations will be responsible for managing the day-to-day delivery, readiness, and availability of PBS general audience video content across PBS owned-and-operated and third-party streaming platforms, including PBS.org, PBS apps, and YouTube. This role will oversee the workflows that move content from producer delivery through quality review, publishing, and ongoing library management, supporting both free and paid streaming experiences.

Working alongside the other video operations roles, this role will translate programming schedules, content windowing policies, and platform strategies into reliable operational plans. The Manager will coordinate with PBS Programming, Technology, Digital & Marketing, and content management teams as well as PBS Distribution, and national producers to ensure content and supporting assets are complete, accurate, and available when audiences expect them.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Translate approved content windowing and platform plans into publishing requirements, including release dates, expirations, geographic restrictions, and access settings. Resolve discrepancies with the appropriate policy and rights owners.
  • Oversee multiple versions of video assets and supporting materials, including captions, audio tracks, artwork, metadata, and platform-specific edits, ensuring the correct assets reach each destination.
  • Manage operational readiness for premieres, library releases, and new distribution initiatives. Identify delivery risks early, communicate impacts, and coordinate contingency plans.
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance procedures for video, audio, captions, and metadata. Coordinate corrections and verify that published content meets PBS standards and platform requirements.
  • Maintain accurate asset records, delivery tracking, and streaming availability information across content and digital asset management systems.
  • Lead troubleshooting of failed deliveries, publishing errors, and content availability issues. Coordinate resolution across teams, escalate risks, and address recurring causes.
  • Develop and document processes that improve turnaround times, reduce manual work, and clarify responsibilities across Video Operations, Programming, Content Packaging, and platform teams.
  • Partner with Technology and Product teams to define operational requirements, test system changes, and support migrations, integrations, and workflow automation.
  • Execute certain job functions outside of general work hours (M-F 9am-5pm) on an as-needed basis to accommodate last minute deliverables ahead of airdate
  • Lead the implementation of new processes and workflows as opportunities arise or circumstances evolve across Digital Video Team, Technology, Media Operations Center, Programming, and others
  • Coordinate operational support for livestreams and near-live releases, including testing, caption readiness, delivery plans, and backup procedures.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • undefined

Requirements for success:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, media production, technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Seven or more years of experience in digital video operations, media asset management, streaming distribution, or a related field, including responsibility for complex workflows and cross-functional projects.
  • Experience with content management and digital asset management systems, including asset ingest, metadata, publishing, and library maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of video formats, encoding and transcoding, captioning, audio specifications, and file delivery methods.
  • Understanding of streaming platforms across web, mobile, and connected television, including YouTube publishing tools and operational requirements.
  • Experience applying content rights, windowing restrictions, and platform specifications to distribution workflows.
