We’re looking for a Legal Research Associate to support in-depth legal research related to the acquisition of repossessed and distressed real estate in Germany.
The role focuses on researching the legal processes for acquiring distressed real estate, combining legal theory with practical execution, and identifying relevant government and public data sources across Germany’s federal states.
An interesting challenge that would suit someone interested in expanding their knowledge of property law in an international setting, beginning with the German market.

Conduct structured legal research on the process of purchasing distressed and repossessed real estate in Germany
Research relevant laws, regulations, court procedures, and authorities involved in distressed acquisitions
Identify differences between the legal/theoretical process and real-world execution
Assess the availability of and identify official government and public-sector data sources related to real estate,for example:
- Foreclosure and enforcement procedures
- Property ownership and registration
- Cadastre and land-related information
- Publicly available transaction references or market indicators
Analyse federal and regional (Länder-level) authorities, recognising differences across Germany’s 16 federal states for data sources
Assess reliability, structure, and accessibility of identified sources
Document how legal processes and public data sources interconnect
Produce clear research outputs such as process maps, summaries, checklists, and written briefs
Support internal understanding of legal risks, timelines, and common pitfalls in distressed real estate transactions
Develop a structured research framework and methodology that can be replicated and adapted for distressed real estate research in other countries
Background in German law; law degree completed or in advanced stages of study
Strong interest in property law (Immobilienrecht) and real estate-related legal processes
1–3 years of experience (internships, legal research, or assistant roles suitable)
Strong research, analytical, and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and structure complex legal information clearly
German and English are essential
Experience of the auction process, either buy or sell side, is preferred
