PURPOSE

This role is for a Technical Lead with ownership over the SAP Data Migration aspects of the BFS Data Engineering Team. The ideal candidate will have experience leading the technical aspects of the Data Migration team including providing oversight and ownership over the technical architecture and end to end development process, implementing data migration solutions using SAP Data Services and is responsible for the timely delivery of high-quality, reliable and cost-effective migration solutions from a diverse set of ERP sources into SAP S/4 Hana among other targets including Azure Cloud. This includes defining design guidelines using best practices related to SAP Data Services. The engineer will also be responsible for coding/building pipelines, peer reviews, and general oversight, the complexity of which is driven by business need.  As the maturity of the environment increases, this role will be responsible for helping to develop our cloud data platform.  As such the role will require cloud architecture and data engineering expertise.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Leads complex projects from end to end.
  • Drives analyses from technical design through completion; guides others on working in a dev ops structure/ environment.
  • Acts as point of escalation/ deep SME resource to manage admin failure and messaging events.
  • Develops complex data extracts, applications, and ad-hoc queries as requested by internal and external customers using ETL toolsets.
  • Conducts complex ETL processes and troubleshooting.
  • Defines requirements for ETL solutions, ensure data quality and match-back to core systems transaction results.
  • Identifies and documents process for building data models; ensures data is clean and usable through validation, testing and troubleshooting.
  • Leads data architecture and pipeline development to store and process high-volume data sets.
  • Identifies immediate and larger scope problems through thorough code reviews.
  • Tests and reviews code to optimize scale, velocity, and reliability of deliverables.
  • Collaborates with Data Scientists to ensure architectural and project specification needs are being met.
  • Designs solid, robust, and extensible data warehouse system, and prepares data to support key business flows.
  • Defines standardization and reuse opportunities, abstractions and patterns across classes and components to streamline design and development of data integration solutions.
  • Determines data mapping tools and techniques, reviews, and highlights process improvement opportunities.
  • Devises new methods and procedures for collecting data; performs complex data analyses.
  • Designs and creates reporting and visualization for communicating data insights, underlying principle, and linkage of data to business outcomes; presents findings to senior stakeholders.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • 7+ years relevant work experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience leading ETL having worked on multiple SAP data migration projects from end to end.  Demonstrated high involvement with SAP data object migration processes / tools and complex data extractions, transformations, and data loading techniques.
  • Experience in SAP Data Migration Toolset: SAP Data Services (BODS) including the setup and maintenance of the environment (Job Servers, Client, VMs, etc), iDoc, BAPI, LSMW, RFC, DMC including the creation and execution of the programs to perform data extraction, transformation and loading of legacy data.
  • Manages and resolves data conversion issues during loading, upon consulting with functional team/client
  • Demonstrated experience in performance tuning pipelines and applications related to the Data Migration process, providing quick resolution to such issues
  • Demonstrated experience in IT security practices in data at rest and in motion
  • Maintain Technical and Functional Documentation / Standards including Field Mapping, Validations, Process Flows, Relevancy Rules, etc.
  • Experience in Azure data engineering toolset: Databricks, Microsoft SQL Databases (SQLMI), Azure DevOps, etc.
  • Experience in basic data warehousing and modeling practices and techniques
  • Operating System Technologies: Windows, Linux/Unix including VMs
  • Database Technologies: Microsoft SQL, S/4 Hana, Sybase, ODBC/JDBC connection management
  • Programming Languages: SQL, Python

In addition to the base wage listed, this position is also eligible to earn an annual bonus subject to changes in plan design and documents and in accordance with applicable law.
