Unissant is seeking a Java Engineer to join our team and support our client.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable enterprise applications using Java 21+, Struts, and Spring Boot.
- Develop and maintain modern web application components using Node.js and JavaScript frameworks, preferably Vue.js.
- Design, develop, and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices, including Java- and Python-based APIs.
- Develop and deploy cloud-based applications within AWS, leveraging services such as Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, Step Functions, RDS, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and Redis.
- Build and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions and support application containerization using Docker.
- Troubleshoot complex application, integration, deployment, and production issues and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, DevOps engineers, business analysts, testers, and other stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Proactively identify technical risks, dependencies, and team blockers; recommend mitigation strategies and drive issues through resolution.
- Manage multiple competing development priorities while meeting sprint, release, quality, security, and project delivery commitments.
- Support continuous improvement and modernization initiatives, including integration of ML/AI workflows and adherence to applicable NIH and federal development and security standards.
Work Experience and Job Skills
- 5+ years' of IT developement experience with Java programming using Struts and Spring Boot frameworks (Java 21 on).
- 3+ years' experience with Node.js libraries (preferably Vue.js).
- 3+ years of experience deploying application code in an AWS environment.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services, including Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, Step Functions, RDS, Elasticsearch, Redis, and related cloud services.
- 3+ years of experience developing Python-based APIs.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, e.g., GitHub Actions.
- Working knowledge of Docker images and containerization.
- Ability to identify risks proactively, recommend mitigating actions, and drive them to resolution; mitigate team blockers.
- Ability to manage multiple competing tasks and work collaboratively across functional areas; present and communicate analytical findings on an independent basis.
- Understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence (ML/AI) workflows.
- Experience in NIH IT systems that support clinical research or research administration operational reporting.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree is required. Preferred field of study in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Operations Management, or related field of study.
- MBA/Master's Degree in a relevant field of study preferred.
Communication Skills
- Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to present proposals and performance data, comfortable interfacing all levels of organization.
- Ability to write clear and concise creative content in a highly confidential manner.
Clearance Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance is required.
- NIH Badged (preferred, or recently NIH badged).
Travel
- This position is primarily remote.
- The client may direct or approve occasional in-person participation for planning, transition, training, meetings, workshops, or other program events.
Environmental Requirements
- Mainly a routine office environment.
- May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds.
- Flexible in working extended hours.
