Job Summary**

The IT Solutions Officer (Data Engineer) will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust and scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support the World Food Programme's data-driven initiatives, working remotely within the CSTII framework.

Job Responsibilities**

* Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines for extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) data from various sources into data warehouses and data lakes.
* Implement data governance policies and ensure data quality, integrity, and security across all data platforms.
* Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
* Optimize data processing, storage, and retrieval for performance and cost-efficiency.
* Evaluate and recommend new data technologies and tools to enhance the WFP's data capabilities.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of data architecture strategies and standards.
* Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
* Foster a culture of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) within the team and across partnerships, promoting respectful collaboration and equitable opportunities.
* Engage in effective Partnership Management with internal and external stakeholders to achieve common data goals.
* Uphold Professional Integrity in all data handling and project execution, ensuring ethical practices and transparency.

Job Qualifications**

* Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or a first university degree with additional years of relevant experience.
* Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role, with a strong understanding of data warehousing, ETL processes, and big data technologies.
* Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java, and experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
* Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and their data services.
* Demonstrated ability to design and implement scalable and reliable data architectures.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* Proven ability to work independently and as part of a remote team, demonstrating strong self-management and collaboration skills.
* Proficiency in English (oral and written) is required. Working knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an asset.
