The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is an armed police service that’s dedicated to the nuclear industry. Our Professional Standards Department (PSD) has responsibility for the investigation of complaints and misconduct committed by either officers or police staff, and we are looking for Investigators to join us on a mobile basis. 

These positions will investigate misconduct and complaints against officers and staff in accordance with the law and relevant regulations. This will include cases where there is evidence to suggest misconduct or malpractice is suspected of being committed.

This role is a home-working position, with occasional travel around the UK as required. All travel expenses incurred are covered by the CNC.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure that all PSD investigations are carried out in line with statutory requirements, are conducted expeditiously and within specified timescales where possible, and are compliant with statutory and IOPC Guidance.
• Assists in the preparation of reports to the Appropriate Authority to enable determination of misconduct cases, ensuring that investigation reports are prepared to a high standard.
• Provides formal updates of the progress of cases to complainants and employees subject of investigation, ensuring that statutory obligations are filled with regards to content and timeliness.   
• Support the Force Legal Dept in the preparation and presentation of evidence at gross misconduct hearings.

Skills and Experience

• Proven investigative skills gained in a policing role or similarly regulated agency.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to negotiate and influence people at all levels.
• Experience of conducting interviews under PACE. 
• Understands CPIA / Disclosure responsibilities in criminal or disciplinary investigations.
• Knowledge of the National Intelligence Model. 
• PIP 2 Accredited Investigator. 
• Knowledge of Police Conduct Regulations and associated legislation and guidance, or experience of PSD investigations with appropriate professional training (SANCUS) is highly desirable.
