$18.55 per hour working 20 hours per week.

Humane World for Animals, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking an Intern for the Media Relations department. As an intern, you will support the Media Relations team in advancing Humane World for Animals’ mission and visibility through strategic media relations activities. The intern will gain hands-on experience with media relations tools, processes, and best practices in a nonprofit environment, contributing to media outreach, content development and long-term communications campaigns. Responsibilities include drafting social media content, press releases and other media materials; identifying and engaging media contacts using media relations platforms; supporting reporter outreach; and assisting with initiatives that help generate earned media coverage and elevate awareness of animal welfare issues. The intern will collaborate with a diverse team of communications professionals, participate in strategic planning discussions and contribute to projects that foster teamwork, creative thinking and professional development.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
• Track media coverage
• Conduct reporter research
• Draft and route content for our X.com account, Humane World News
• Help draft, edit and distribute media advisories, news releases, op-eds, letters to the editor and other press materials
• Assist the department with data collection and analytics to further our media reach
• Help proofread our CEO’s blog
Education and Experience:
• Pursuing or having graduated with a degree in media relations, public relations or communications preferred;
• Previous volunteer or internship experience with a non-profit organization, animal protection/advocacy organization or animal shelter preferred;
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
• Critical thinker with strong attention to detail;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications;
• Self-motivated and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
• Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment;
This internship is remote.
