Hearing Representative II

Overview

The Hearing Representative will be primarily responsible for the analysis, management and resolution of workers’ compensation defense lien claims. This position will work closely with Claims and Staff Counsel to ensure the efficient and cost-effective resolution of liens, defending AmTrust’s position at lien trial, if appropriate.

Responsibilities

​​Role and Responsibilities​ 

• Manages a high volume of case inventory comprised mostly of lien litigation claims. 

• Meets monthly targets for lien case closures. 

• Communicates professionally and proactively with Claims and other internal stakeholders 

• Drafts concise, professional legal pleadings and correspondence needed to document claims closure efforts, including petitions, objections, filling out Pre-Trial Conference Statements, prepare trial exhibits, as required by WCJ and trial briefs for lien trials.  

• Manages entire life cycle of lien litigation, from open negotiations through to settlement and/or trial. 

• Prepares defenses and arguments to present at trial where AmTrust clearly lacks responsibility for liens. 

• Properly analyze and defend non-IBR and Petition for Costs 

• Represents AmTrust’s court appearances at lien conferences and lien trials, as well as other hearings deemed appropriate by claims, including Contribution and AA Atty fee split hearings. 

Qualifications

​​Qualifications and Education Requirements​ 

• Experience: 1 to 5 years of workers’ compensation hearing representative experience before the California WCAB 

• Excellent negotiation skills 

• Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office software and be able to master and become proficient proprietary and vended software programs 

• Ability to conduct legal research, analyze data and prepare recommendations demonstrated ability to interpret and apply Labor Codes, CCRs, CCPs and evidence code; ability to derive appropriate conclusions from research; strong attention to detail 

• Ability to work remotely and regularly travel to various hearings and meetings as required 

• Ability to demonstrate self-starter capabilities and ability to prioritize important tasks and deadlines that derive from a voluminous case load
