Job Overview
The Health & Welfare Benefits Analyst supports the administration, analysis, and continuous improvement of Tufts Medicine’s health and welfare benefit programs, including medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life, disability, COBRA, and leave-related programs. This position focuses on data integrity, reporting, vendor coordination, and operational execution, enabling the Benefits team to scale efficiently, strengthen compliance, and enhance employee experience. This position works closely with HRIS, vendors, payroll, and the Employee Service Center (ESC) to ensure accurate and timely benefit delivery.
Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field.
2. Two (2) years of experience in benefits.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience with Workday or similar HRIS strongly preferred.
2. Experience supporting case management or ticketing systems.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Supports day-to-day administration of health & welfare programs (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, COBRA, leave integration).
2. Partners with the Employee Service Center team to resolve escalated employee issues and ensure consistent service delivery.
3. Monitors eligibility, enrollments, and life event processing within Workday.
4. Assists with Open Enrollment execution, including audits, testing, and employee communications.
5. Manages and resolves escalated benefit-related cases within Workday.
6. Serves as Tier 2 support for complex benefit inquiries, including eligibility issues, enrollment discrepancies, and payroll deduction concerns.
7. Partners with HRIS to troubleshoot system issues, business process errors, and integration discrepancies.
9. Ensures timely case resolution and adherence to service level expectations (SLAs).
10. Develops standard responses, job aids, and knowledge articles to support Tier 1 (ESC) teams.
11. Develops and maintains recurring audits: Per-pay-period deduction audits, Monthly eligibility audits, and Vendor file reconciliation.
12. Partners with HRIS to build and enhance reporting capabilities.
13. Supports compliance reporting (ACA, nondiscrimination testing, audit requests).
14. Serves as a day-to-day contact for benefit vendors.
15. Assists in managing vendor performance and issue resolution.
16. Supports implementation and ongoing management of vendors such as: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Liviniti, HealthEquity, and The Hartford.
17. Coordinates file feeds and ensures data accuracy between systems.
18. Documents and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs).
19. Supports transition of work to ESC where appropriate.
20. Assists with system enhancements and testing in partnership with HRIS.
21. Ensures adherence to plan documents and regulatory requirements.
22. Supports internal and external audits.
23. Tracks and manages exceptions to ensure proper documentation and oversight.
Physical Requirements:
1. Work environment is a professional office environment with typical office requirements such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.
2. This is largely a sedentary role, which involves sitting most of the time, but may involve movements such as walking, standing, reaching, ascending / descending stairs and operate office equipment.
3. Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate, and exchange information.
4. Ability to see and read computers displays, read fine print, and/or normal type size print and distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.
5. Ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Job Profile Summary
This role focuses on supporting the design, development, and implementation of human resource programs and policies, including recruitment, training and development, compensation and benefits, mobility, talent acquisition, diversity, talent management & organization development and employee/labor relations. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following benefit duties: Designs, implements, and administers an organization's health and welfare benefits programs. Responsibilities also include plan design, communications, vendor partnerships, and costing solutions that align with Tufts Medicine's strategies to engage and retain talent. This role is also accountable to work collaboratively with leaders, legal, and key stakeholders to ensure compliance to all regulatory aspects of health and welfare and retirement plan benefits administration. A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. An entry level role that applies broad theoretical job knowledge typically obtained through advanced education. May require the following proficiency: work is closely supervised, problems faced are not typically difficult or complex, and explains facts, policies and practices related to job area.
