Health Scientist IV (ERIB)

Summary:

Goldbelt Professional Services is seeking a Health Scientist IV to provide health science support within the Epidemiology Research and Innovations Branch (ERIB).

Essential Job Functions:

• Independently conduct analyses to populate a social network analysis tool or other modeling activities, working with investigators to create code or analyses for mathematical models.
• Create and submit documented R code or code in other languages/platforms (Python, PySpark, Decipher, SQL) for quality control, data manipulation, and reporting, including quality control checks.
• Independently develop code for statistical and epidemiological analyses, including descriptive and advanced statistical analyses, leveraging methodological expertise.
• Conduct programming and data management analyses to support publication of scientific documents; prepare tables and charts.
• Aid new acquisitions and renewals of administrative data sources via request packages and research approvals.
• Independently develop mathematical models of disease transmission (deterministic/stochastic compartmental, branching process, network, Bayesian models) to evaluate surveillance/mitigation strategies, with appropriate documentation for public dissemination.
• Collaborate with epidemiologists, statisticians, programmers, medical officers, and project managers on ERIB's programmatic mission.
• Perform day-to-day project management tasks for ERIB-led projects; recommend or take corrective action.
• Participate in and/or coordinate meetings, conferences, 1–2 site visits, and webinars.
• Co-author scientific manuscripts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Participate during CDC response activities and training exercises under direction of the DHQP Team Lead; duties include staffing the EOC desk to help support CDC's mission.

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

• Experience in using quantitative and qualitative methods to interpret data, and creating tables and charts for presentations.
• Knowledge of surveillance data, data visualization, and data integration.
• Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse set of government and commercial stakeholders on technical contracts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership, teamwork, management, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to derive innovative solutions to complex problems.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Professional working knowledge of R and/or Python is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain CDC Public Trust Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in public health, biostatistics, or a related discipline plus 2 years of relevant, directly comparable experience, or a Master's degree plus 7 years of relevant experience.
• Prior experience working with the CDC is highly desired to understand the culture and environment.

Pay and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $135,000 to $145,000 annually.
