We are looking for a Health & Safety Officer to organize, improve, and manage health and safety systems within a growing construction business.

This is primarily an office-based coordination role focused on compliance, documentation management, subcontractor onboarding, accreditation requirements, and process improvement. The successful candidate will help build and maintain a structured health and safety framework while ensuring employees and subcontractors remain compliant with company and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience supporting a construction, trades, or subcontractor-based business in Australia or New Zealand and be comfortable communicating with multiple stakeholders to ensure health and safety obligations are met

Key Responsibilities
  • Review, organize, and improve existing health and safety policies, procedures, documentation, and records.
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard identification activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, near misses, audits, inspections, corrective actions, qualifications, and certifications.
  • Monitor and track health and safety compliance requirements for approximately 200 employees and 30 subcontractor organizations.
  • Coordinate health and safety training, certifications, and renewals.
  • Proactively follow up with employees and subcontractors regarding expired or soon-to-expire documentation.
  • Develop and manage structured onboarding processes for subcontractors.
  • Assist in achieving and maintaining SiteWise accreditation requirements.
  • Review and centralize health and safety documentation currently stored across multiple systems and locations.
  • Research, recommend, and assist with the implementation of an appropriate Health & Safety management platform or CRM.
  • Generate reports, compliance documentation, and audit-ready records for management review.
  • Build strong working relationships with subcontractors while ensuring compliance with company health and safety standards.
  • Assist with emergency response planning and business continuity initiatives.
  • Provide general administrative support including scheduling, correspondence, record management, and documentation control.



Requirements

What You Bring
We’re looking for someone who:
  • Has 3+ years of experience in a Health & Safety, HSE, WHS, HSEQ, or compliance coordination role.
  • Has experience supporting a construction, trades, building, or subcontractor-based business.
  • Has experience working within an Australian or New Zealand Health & Safety environment (essential).
  • Has strong knowledge of health and safety compliance, documentation management, risk management, and incident reporting.
  • Has experience managing contractor and subcontractor compliance documentation.
  • Has experience organizing and maintaining large volumes of employee and subcontractor records.
  • Has strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Is confident communicating with stakeholders and can professionally hold subcontractors accountable for compliance requirements.
  • Has experience implementing, maintaining, or improving compliance systems and processes.
  • Is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of projects.
  • Has experience with SiteWise, HazardCo, WorkSafe requirements, or similar AU/NZ H&S frameworks (highly advantageous).
  • Has previous administration, coordination, or office management experience (preferred).
  • Is proficient in Microsoft Office and document management systems
