AI Summary

The Head of SEO will define and execute the company's global SEO strategy while leading and developing a team of SEO managers. They are responsible for driving organic growth through technical audits, content optimization, and data-driven performance analysis.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Head of SEO to take ownership of the company’s SEO strategy across multiple markets, driving sustainable organic growth and ensuring effective execution across the entire SEO function.

The successful candidate will lead the SEO department, including managing the SEO Managers and wider team, while establishing clear priorities, objectives, KPIs and resource allocation.

This is a strategic but hands-on leadership position for someone comfortable operating at both a high level and getting into the detail when required. This includes analysing performance, identifying growth opportunities, resolving challenges and collaborating closely with Senior Management and cross-functional teams to achieve measurable commercial results.

The position is fully remote, with occasional management meetups potentially taking place in Malta or Bulgaria, approximately once or twice per year.

Key Responsibilities

SEO Strategy & Leadership

  • Take ownership of the company’s overall SEO strategy across all markets and websites, ensuring alignment with wider business and commercial goals.

  • Define SEO priorities, roadmaps, targets and KPIs, with clear ownership and measurable outcomes.

  • Identify and prioritise growth opportunities based on performance data, market conditions, available resources and commercial potential.

  • Lead, manage and develop the SEO department, including the three SEO Managers, establishing clear objectives and performance expectations.

  • Oversee team performance, resource planning, recruitment, development and training.

  • Develop and continuously enhance SEO processes, standards, documentation and best practices across the organisation.

  • Serve as the company’s senior SEO expert, providing strategic direction to Senior Management and ensuring the function operates consistently and effectively.

  • Keep up to date with search algorithm developments, AI Overviews, generative AI and emerging search technologies, adapting strategies where necessary.

Technical, Content & Authority

  • Develop and manage technical SEO strategies covering site architecture, crawling, indexing, rendering, internal linking, structured data, redirects, international SEO and Core Web Vitals.

  • Lead and oversee technical SEO audits, ensuring identified issues are appropriately prioritised and resolved.

  • Partner closely with Development and Product teams on new websites, product features, migrations, redesigns and significant technical changes.

  • Drive on-page and content SEO strategy, including keyword research, search intent, content planning, optimisation and performance improvement.

  • Collaborate with Content and Social Media teams to ensure content strategies reflect search demand and commercial priorities.

  • Develop and oversee link-building, link acquisition and digital PR strategies, maintaining appropriate quality standards across different markets.

  • Ensure SEO considerations are embedded within new products, websites, campaigns and broader business initiatives.

Data, Performance & Commercial Growth

  • Establish and monitor SEO performance frameworks and KPIs covering organic traffic, rankings, visibility, conversions and revenue.

  • Analyse SEO performance and translate findings into clear, commercially focused recommendations and actions.

  • Identify areas of underperformance, conduct root-cause analysis and implement appropriate corrective measures.

  • Produce SEO reports, forecasts and strategic recommendations for Directors and Senior Management.

  • Carry out ongoing competitor and market research to identify new markets, search trends, keywords and organic growth opportunities.

  • Ensure SEO performance is consistently evaluated against wider business and commercial objectives.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with internal departments, external agencies, consultants and industry partners when required.

  • Attend relevant meetings, conferences, exhibitions, workshops and training sessions locally or internationally when necessary.

  • Represent the company and the SEO function professionally when dealing with external stakeholders.

  • Undertake other relevant managerial, strategic, administrative and related responsibilities as reasonably required by the business.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of senior SEO leadership experience.

  • Demonstrable experience leading and developing SEO teams, ideally including management of managers and multi-market functions.

  • Strong expertise across technical SEO, on-page SEO, content, keyword research, link building and digital PR.

  • A proven record of delivering measurable and sustainable organic growth through effective SEO strategies.

  • Strong understanding of search algorithms, ranking factors, SEO best practices and the evolving AI and generative search landscape.

  • Hands-on experience with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Ahrefs, Semrush or comparable platforms.

  • Strong analytical and commercial capabilities, with the ability to translate data and insights into actionable strategies and measurable business outcomes.

  • Experience managing SEO across multiple websites, markets or international environments is highly desirable.

  • Strong strategic, organisational and project-management capabilities combined with a hands-on approach.

  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to establish accountability and drive performance across a sizeable team.

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with strong ownership of results and a focus on continuous improvement.

  • Confidence in challenging existing approaches and making decisions based on data and performance.

  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, international and results-driven environment.

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

  • Comfortable working independently and managing teams within a fully remote environment.

Success in this position will involve:

  • Establishing and executing a clear and scalable SEO strategy across all markets.

  • Delivering sustainable improvements in organic visibility, traffic and commercially relevant performance.

  • Creating strong accountability and performance across the three SEO Managers and wider SEO team.

  • Ensuring the SEO function operates with clearly defined priorities, processes, KPIs and ownership.

  • Identifying and successfully capitalising on new organic growth opportunities.

  • Ensuring technical SEO, content and authority-building initiatives are executed effectively.

  • Providing Senior Management with clear, accurate and commercially relevant SEO insights.
