We build businesses and investment platforms that generate both exceptional financial returns and meaningful societal impact. Our 500+ teammates are united by a mission to catalyze human flourishing: building, testing, and scaling tools that serve real people in the real economy.

Mindset

  • Fanatical Investor Focus: Serve our investors by preserving their wealth first and foremost and secondarily seeking to maximize their return on equity while fostering human progress through stewardship of the assets and companies.
  • Ecosystem Alignment: Execute in a spirit of partnership across all components of the Rex ecosystem, including multifamily and other real estate assets as well as tech companies.
  • Missionary Zeal: Care about investor stewardship and advancing the vision of catalyzing human flourishing.

The Opportunity

Rex is seeking a Head of Finance to build and lead the financial architecture for a growing ecosystem of operating companies, investment vehicles, and family office activities. Working directly with Peter Rex and senior leadership, this person will serve as the strategic financial quarterback for the organization, bringing visibility, rigor, and forward-looking judgment across an increasingly complex portfolio.

This role is anchored by three core mandates: building world-class financial visibility, creating disciplined capital allocation frameworks, and establishing the infrastructure required to support long-term growth. The Head of Finance will drive forecasting at ecosystem level and at each company, employee financial incentives, investment partner strategy, global cash management, debt strategy, tax planning and strategy, capital deployment oversight, banking relationships, investment inflows, intercompany allocations, and financial governance across multiple entities and business lines. They will build the systems and reporting frameworks that allow leadership to deploy capital intelligently, evaluate opportunities, manage risk, and see around corners before problems emerge. The ideal candidate brings 10–15 years of finance leadership experience within private equity, family office, holding company, investment management, or multi-entity operating environments. Candidates should have firsthand experience deploying capital, managing lender relationships, negotiating debt facilities and credit lines, overseeing sophisticated tax planning initiatives, and supporting complex ownership structures. Corporate accounting and fund accounting expertise needed, alongside fluency operating modern finance platforms such as NetSuite, Adaptive Planning, Anaplan, Carta, or similar systems.

This is not a delegation-heavy executive role. We are looking for a builder who is equally comfortable designing strategy and personally creating the systems required to execute it. The right candidate combines exceptional financial judgment with analytical rigor, intellectual honesty, and a bias toward simplicity. They must be capable of delivering hard truths with clarity and conviction while bringing order to highly complex environments. This role requires high agency, strong business judgment, and deep alignment with what we are building. We are looking for a trusted advisor, capital allocator, and operator capable of helping steward and scale a multi-entity enterprise over the long term. Must deeply believe in the mission. Not for mercenaries. Only for missionaries.

About the Role

This role exists to build and lead the financial architecture for a growing ecosystem of operating companies, investment vehicles, and family office activities. This role exists to give leadership clear visibility, disciplined judgment, and real-time control across a complex, multi-entity platform.

This person will work directly with Peter Rex and senior leadership as the strategic financial quarterback for the organization. They will own financial reporting, forecasting, capital allocation, cash management, debt strategy, tax strategy, governance, and decision support across companies, funds, entities, and business lines.

The Head of Finance will build the systems, models, dashboards, controls, and operating rhythms required to scale. They will turn complexity into clarity, establish disciplined capital deployment frameworks, strengthen banking and lender relationships, manage investment inflows, and ensure leadership can see risk and opportunity before they become obvious.

This is for a builder with elite financial judgment who can operate at both altitude and ground level. Strategy matters, but execution matters more. This person must bring order, rigor, and truth to the financial engine of Rex. Must be missionary to the bone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build ecosystem-level financial visibility across operating companies, investment vehicles, family office activities, and intercompany structures.
  • Own consolidated forecasting, budgeting, scenario planning, and liquidity planning across the full platform.
  • Create capital allocation frameworks that guide investment decisions, operating company funding, debt usage, and reserve strategy.
  • Lead cash management across entities, banks, currencies, operating accounts, investment accounts, and treasury workflows.
  • Manage lender relationships, negotiate credit lines, evaluate debt facilities, and support long-term capital structure strategy.
  • Build financial reporting packages for Peter Rex, senior leadership, investment partners, lenders, and key stakeholders.
  • Oversee corporate accounting, fund accounting, intercompany allocations, consolidations, and entity-level financial governance.
  • Partner with tax advisors, legal counsel, and leadership to drive tax planning, entity structuring, and ownership-related financial strategy.
  • Design employee financial incentive models that align performance, ownership, and long-term value creation.
  • Evaluate investment opportunities, capital deployment requests, business plans, and downside risk with clear analytical judgment.
  • Implement and optimize finance systems such as NetSuite, Adaptive Planning, Anaplan, Carta, banking platforms, and reporting tools.
  • Establish financial controls, approval workflows, reporting cadences, and accountability mechanisms across the ecosystem.
  • Deliver hard truths quickly, clearly, and without politics when numbers reveal risk, waste, or weak thinking.
  • Build a finance function that scales without becoming bureaucratic.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 8-12 years of finance leadership experience in private equity, family office, holding company, investment management, or multi-entity operating environments.
  • Proven experience managing complex ownership structures, intercompany activity, investment vehicles, and operating company financials.
  • Strong background in capital allocation, capital deployment oversight, treasury, lender management, and debt strategy.
  • Firsthand experience negotiating debt facilities, credit lines, banking relationships, and liquidity structures.
  • Deep corporate accounting and fund accounting fluency, including consolidations, allocations, entity reporting, and governance.
  • Strong tax planning exposure, with ability to partner intelligently with external tax, legal, and structuring advisors.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills across forecasting, scenario analysis, liquidity planning, underwriting, and portfolio-level reporting.
  • Experience with NetSuite, Adaptive Planning, Anaplan, Carta, Excel, BI tools, banking portals, and modern finance workflows.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field required. CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred but not required.
  • Capable of building systems personally, not just directing others to build them.
  • Exceptional judgment under ambiguity, with ability to simplify complex financial realities into clear decisions.
  • High ownership, high urgency, and no tolerance for sloppy numbers or vague accountability.
  • Comfortable working directly with founders, principals, investors, operators, lenders, attorneys, and tax advisors.
  • Intellectually honest, direct, and willing to challenge assumptions when the facts demand it.
  • Strong alignment with the Rex mission and long-term platform-building mindset.

  • Customer Fanatic. We fanatically focus on customers, seeking to ever-deliver more value, and inventing/innovating on their behalf.
  • Product/Service Passion. Our business thrives or dies by products/services.
  • Ludicrous speed. Our default pace is extremely fast. Time is precious, life is short; and moving fast is more fun and effective.
  • FAWOMO. We will find a way, or make one.
  • Loves going to war: prefers wartime to peacetime, always hungry to move forward, do more, and push growth.
  • Chutzpah. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Fortune favors the bold. Duc in altum.
  • Fun. We should only do work, over the long run, that’s fun; and work with fun people. Jokes and humor welcomed; PC stuff and uptight behavior prohibited.

  • Other-centered. Idealist, desperate more than anything to leave an impact with their life by helping other people, seeing money as a means to serve.
  • Creative cost cutting constantly. There's always a smarter way, always room to cut, always ways to do more with less – a cost advantage is a competitive edge.
  • Fewer, more capable. Bias to as lean of a team as possible, with the highest competency – reducing communication and coordination, creating more effectiveness.
  • Underdogs. What we’ve done is nothing compared to what we’re going to achieve now. We’re fighting to be the best, clawing and biting up and forward, aiming to be the champs, be #1. Scrappy AF no matter how much we accomplish. We’ve never ‘arrived’ in our minds. We’re the underdogs always.
  • Other attributes valued. Pointblank forthrightness in conversation with teammates, brutally facing problems; velvet glove with iron fist in human dealings; shrewd as a serpent innocent as a dove; hardcore work hustle; invictus mentality; swagger with humility; quiet professionalism; thrifty and not materialistic; loves who they work with, loves what they do, and loves who we serve.
