Responsibilities

Tenant Platform is the invisible backbone of Atlassian Cloud — it orchestrates tenant-scoped provisioning, lifecycle, and recovery across all major Atlassian products. As Atlassian scales to serve more enterprise customers and introduces new capabilities, Tenant Platform ensures these changes are executed durably, in the correct order, with the right isolation, and with recovery paths when things fail.

We are seeking a Head of Engineering to lead this critical platform organization. You will own the engineering strategy, delivery, and people leadership across multiple teams, ensuring Tenant Platform scales non-linearly with Atlassian's growth.

Responsibilities

Strategic & Technical Leadership

  • Set and execute the engineering vision and strategy for Tenant Platform, aligning with Core Engineering and company-wide priorities (scale, enterprise-grade provisioning, cost efficiency, AI-native platform)

  • Own the technical roadmap for tenant lifecycle orchestration — provisioning, mutation, recovery, and migration of tenants across Atlassian Cloud

  • Drive architectural decisions that ensure Tenant Platform scales non-linearly as Atlassian grows its enterprise customer base

  • Partner with Product, Security, and Platform peers to define how new capabilities are safely rolled out to existing customers

Delivery & Operational Excellence

  • Own end-to-end delivery of complex, cross-service provisioning and lifecycle systems, ensuring high reliability, durability, and enterprise-grade SLAs

  • Drive cloud cost management and gross margin improvement for Tenant Platform services; maintain fiscal discipline within COGS and R&D budgets

  • Establish and maintain operational excellence — on-call health, incident response, alert quality, and toil reduction — across all Tenant Platform teams

  • Ensure deployment practices and topology improvements keep pace with platform growth

People & Organization

  • Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering organization across multiple teams and geographies, including managers of managers

  • Attract, hire, and retain world-class engineering talent; drive recruiting initiatives and maintain a healthy hiring pipeline

  • Foster an inclusive, high-trust culture where engineers grow, take ownership, and deliver their best work

  • Run calibration, performance reviews, and promotions with fairness and consistency; set the bar for engineering excellence

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Represent Tenant Platform in executive and leadership forums; communicate strategy, progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly to senior stakeholders

  • Coordinate across multiple teams to ensure provisioning flows are reliable and extensible

  • Partner with FinOps, TPM, and infrastructure teams on cost forecasting, capacity planning, and efficiency programs

Innovation & Platform Evolution

  • Champion automation, self-service, and AI-native approaches to reduce manual toil and accelerate tenant operations

  • Drive durable programs (product migrations, new cloud provisioning, enterprise adoption) that expand Tenant Platform's scope and impact

  • Ensure the platform prevents fragmentation by centralizing tenant-scoped change execution and eliminating duplicated solutions across teams

This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

Pay Ranges

In The United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

Zone A: $243,900 - $318,425

Zone B: $219,510 - $286,583

Zone C: $202,437 - $264,293
