Overview
NV5 is seeking a Geospatial Data Management Specialist to work directly with its federal government client in Colorado. The successful candidate will have specific technical skills and expertise to provide support for the federal client. Activities include, but are not limited to, supporting field data collection and management of natural resource inventory and monitoring data, development of mobile applications and maintenance of associated spatial databases, transformation of data, publishing data, and responding to special requests for data and application support. This position is contingent on contract award.
Work Setting: This role offers flexibility in location, with the option to work from any NV5 Regional Office or remotely from home. Occasional travel may be required, typically less than 20%.

Responsibilities
Geospatial Tasks
- Improve the quality and usability of geospatial data.
- Support and enhance quality control procedures for datasets.
- Work with federal staff to document the integrity, quality, and accuracy of data used in the distribution and publication systems.
- Ensure that data requirements, data standards, access rules, and business rules are followed.
- Support the design and creation of data reports and tools to help with decision making.
- Scripting and process automation for data (QC, data ETL, etc.)
- QA/QC dashboard support and workflow maintenance
- Training, documentation, data integration support, and metadata management
- Develop written technical documentation (such as QA/QC workflows, user requirements documentation, metadata, etc.).
- Manage data in a web environment (e.g., AGOL).
- Support the current deployed geospatial software products and all future releases.
- Test and validate new installs, patches, and upgrades of geospatial software.
- Troubleshoot geospatial software issues.
- Develop and implement data management workflow procedures.
- Assist with the implementation of FGDC-compliant metadata including writing, reviewing, and validating metadata to meet government specified standards.
- Provide technical guidance to customers.
- Help customers with technical problems using geospatial software.
- Perform general GIS data maintenance tasks including bulk data loading and editing
- Manage user accounts and access for customers external to the federal client using GeoPlatform, USA.gov, and other systems
- Open issue tickets with technical support, periodically check back with technical support and keep customers informed of progress.
- Work with variety of geospatial datasets from sources within and external to the federal government.
- Apply geospatial technologies to address natural resource and/or land management business requirements.
- Create both hard copy and digital cartographic products.
Project Focused Tasks
- Regularly assist with managing Lotic, Riparian & Wetland, and Terrestrial data and applications.
- Assist with managing Proper Functioning Condition (PFC) and Multiple Indicator Monitoring (MIM) data as needed.
- Implement quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) procedures to routinely ensure data quality and integrity during multiple phases of data capture.
- Assist other federal and partner staff by cleaning data and preparing data products.
- Organize data and perform data management with database, GIS, and statistical software.
- Process and maintain photos, sample design data, and field data.
- Provide technical assistance to end users accessing and using data and geospatial tools, including group and one-on-one discussions, training, tutorials, and webinars.
- Communicate complex technical problems and solutions to non-technical customers.
- Support dissemination of information about the federal program and data through the creation of supplemental materials such as maps, reports, diagrams, charts, etc.
- Assist with developing help files, user guides, and video clips for GIS systems (mobile and desktop).
- Support the creation and documentation of sampling designs for rangeland monitoring.
- Update and modify websites and webpages.
- Assist with and document data management processes and workflows including metadata creation and maintenance for geospatial, tabular, and image data.
- Attend regular meetings to review work progress and schedule, as well as meetings which pertain to the supported program/projects listed above.
- Participate in recurring and ad hoc federal calls and meetings.
Qualifications
- Professional experience with geospatial data collection and management.
- Esri applications such as ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Configurable Apps, ArcGIS Dashboards, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Online (AGOL), ArcGIS StoryMaps, ArcGIS Survey123, ArcPro, Portal for ArcGIS, or others.
- Using coding/scripting languages such as Python, R, VBA, etc. to update and analyze data.
- Examples of experience with disconnected/offline mobile workflows/solutions.
- Web-based geospatial maps and applications.
- Examples of data management tasks, processes, and/or workflows supported.
- Examples of tools, software, or languages used for data collection, data editing, and metadata management.
- Prior experience collecting or working with federal program or other similar natural resource monitoring data preferred.
- Professional experience supporting customers.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for teamwork and customer support.
- Presenting technical material, e.g., PowerPoint, live demos, etc.
- Developing written technical documentation (such as metadata, training materials, workflow diagrams, guidance documents, etc.).
- Supporting offline/disconnected mobile workflows and geospatial data collection and management.
- Examples of tasks, processes, and/or procedures followed to support users of geospatial mobile data collection applications.
- Examples of technical documentation, presentations, and training materials.
- Examples of creating and maintaining metadata.
Education/Experience
- 2-4 years career experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural Science, Computer Science, or related field. Professional GIS Certification preferred.
