The Role:
 

The British Council has a contract to deliver over 1000 hours a week of English lessons to primary school children in Uruguay, aged approximately from 9-11. The children receive 1 hour of remote teaching per week from the remote teacher, supported by the classroom teacher in Argentina.

The focus of the Remote Teacher of English is to deliver high quality English lessons in accordance with the British Council and other partner-specific standards

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:  

Service and Product Delivery Support

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language lessons that meet the needs of Ceibal en ingles considering individual learning and teaching styles, and quality requirements from the respective program.
  • Teach up to 26 remote lessons per week, including substitutions as required. Classes not delivered in one week could be rescheduled to the following week, eventually surpassing the mentioned number of lessons.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course and actively promote learner autonomy. Feedback in CREA platform is expected to be completed up to 24 hs before each lesson.
  • Comply with changing adjustments as may arise during the academic year according to the clients and / or British Council requirements.
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
  • Complete teaching-related administrative tasks to specified standards in accordance with instructions from academic management (eg. teacher support, school calls).
  • Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain the British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
  • Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK.
  • Support local marketing and promotional strategy and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service.

Requirements of the role:

  • Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.
  • First degree/BA in Education, ELT, or equivalent teaching degree.
  • 2 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity Cert (120hs + practicum) or equivalent TESOL experience.
  • Experience in teaching:
    • Primary students (aged 6 to 10) and /or
    • Lower Secondary students (aged 11 to 14) and /or
    • University/Vocational students (aged 18 to 25) and /or Adults General English 18+

Desirable:

  • Fluent in Spanish (C1 or above)
  • IELTS Preparation (and/or examiner)
  • ESOL Exam Preparation (and/or examiner)
  • Teaching experience at primary state schools
  • Online teaching / eLearning / Remote teaching
  • Delta Modules
  • Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL (120hs + practicum
