At Limitlessli, we specialize in recruiting, hiring, and managing high-caliber remote staff for dynamic and growing healthcare facilities. Leveraging our extensive global network, we connect clients with highly qualified professionals, offering meticulously tailored services to meet our clients' unique business needs.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Forensic Utility Bill Auditor / Data Analyst to join our team. In this role, you will review and analyze utility accounts—including gas, electric, and water—to identify billing errors, incorrect rate classifications, tariff misapplications, unusual usage patterns, and potential overcharges.

You will work with utility bills, customer portals, spreadsheets, AI-powered data extraction tools, and public property information to investigate anomalies and help build evidence supporting potential audit findings and recovery claims.

This position is remote and offers you the flexibility of working from home.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Review customer utility accounts and billing histories to identify high-value accounts requiring further investigation.
  • Download and organize historical utility bills and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and professional communications to utility providers outlining identified billing discrepancies, suspected errors, and supporting findings for further investigation and resolution.
  • Create and maintain standardized folder structures and audit files for each client, utility type, account, or property.
  • Prioritize accounts based on billing thresholds and potential financial impact.
  • Standardize utility statements into clean, readable PDFs suitable for data extraction and analysis.
  • Use AI-powered tools to extract up to 24 months of utility billing data into structured spreadsheets.
  • Analyze billing information using Month-over-Month (MoM) and Year-over-Year (YoY) comparisons.
  • Review key data points, including:
    • Billing cycle dates
    • Total monthly charges
    • Energy or utility consumption
    • Rates and tariffs
    • Meter types and rate classes
    • Itemized charges, including generation, transmission, and delivery costs
  • Identify irregular usage patterns, billing anomalies, potentially unjustified charges, and other indicators of possible overbilling.
  • Perform detailed quality assurance by manually validating AI-generated data against the original utility bills.
  • Research property characteristics, including square footage, property type, and visible operational factors that may impact utility usage.
  • Prepare targeted questions for clients to better understand property operations and consumption patterns.
  • Investigate suspected billing errors, including incorrect rate classes, meter types, and tariff violations.
  • Support the calculation of potential historical overcharges and assist in documenting the evidence behind audit findings.
  • Independently verify utility tariffs, rate schedules, regulations, and other supporting documentation using official published sources before finalizing findings.
  • Manage multiple high-priority accounts simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.

The role requires a combination of data extraction, benchmarking, manual quality assurance, property research, and tariff validation.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, Business, Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in data analysis, auditing, utility billing, energy management, financial analysis, or forensic analysis is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify patterns, anomalies, discrepancies, and potential errors within large sets of financial and operational data.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, including data organization, calculations, comparisons, and analysis.
  • Experience working with large volumes of documents and maintaining highly organized digital filing systems.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered data extraction or document analysis tools is an advantage.
  • Experience reviewing utility bills, tariffs, rate schedules, meter types, or energy consumption data is preferred.
  • Strong research skills and the ability to locate and interpret information from official utility, regulatory, and public sources.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to manually verifying data accuracy.
  • Ability to understand and compare Month-over-Month and Year-over-Year performance and identify unusual variances.
  • Strong problem-solving and investigative skills, with the ability to determine the potential cause of discrepancies.
  • Comfortable managing multiple accounts and priorities simultaneously.
  • A high level of integrity, accuracy, and discretion when handling client financial and operational information.
