ABOUT WFP

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) function in WFP’s West and Central Africa Region is a strategic enabler of operations, delivering results-driven support across increasingly complex contexts.
Beyond its core coverage, the global outposted FSQA team provides regional support to 7 Country Offices without dedicated FSQA staff, ensuring that safe, high-quality, and nutritious food reaches vulnerable populations. It enforces WFP standards and best practices for locally procured commodities, including voucher modalities and Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) programmes, while proactively 
managing food safety incidents to safeguard programme integrity and WFP’s reputation.
FSQA’s role extends beyond operations into systemic capacity building. It strengthens national quality infrastructure institutions, enhances FSQA aspects in regional and national grain reserves, and supports regional SNF suppliers. These efforts contribute directly to food systems transformation and reinforce food security across West and Central Africa.

DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support data collection and analysis for FSQA initiatives in selected Country Offices, particularly coastal countries.
• Assist in preparing technical briefs, presentations, and knowledge products for regional FSQA activities.
• Support the organization and documentation of technical meetings, webinars, and knowledge-sharing events.
• Contribute to the development of learning and capacity-strengthening materials for Country Offices and partners.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES
• Technical information and lessons learned are compiled and organized.
• Quality technical and learning materials are developed for internal use.
• Knowledge-sharing activities are effectively supported and documented.
• Country Offices benefit from enhanced access to FSQA knowledge and resources.

Note: The volunteer will work under the supervision of the Regional FSQA team and will not have supervisory, financial, procurement, compliance, representational, or decision-making authority on behalf of WFP

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:

Advanced university degree in Food Technology, Health Sciences, Food Control, Nutrition or other related field, or First University degree with two additional years of related work experience. 

Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in Food Safety and Quality and/or experience in procurement, logistics, and/or supply chain management with additional relevant training in food safety and quality. 

Knowledge & Skills
Experience implementing food science related tools and protocols. 
Experience working with teams across different functional areas. 

Languages: Be fluent in English and French.
