About the Role
We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller to take ownership of accounting operations and financial reporting while helping transition the company's finance function from outsourced accounting to a fully in-house operation.
Reporting directly to the CFO, you'll own the General Ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and accounting controls, while supervising bookkeeping, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable activities.
Deep, hands-on QuickBooks experience is essential for this position. We're specifically looking for someone who has used QuickBooks Online and/or Desktop as their primary day-to-day accounting system for at least 2–3 years, including maintaining the General Ledger, performing reconciliations, running monthly close, and generating financial reports directly from the system.
This is a high-ownership role within a small, collaborative team. In addition to accounting responsibilities, you'll interact directly with clients on accounting-related requests, oversee team standards, and be comfortable supporting operational needs when necessary.

Why This Opportunity?

  • Take ownership of the company's core accounting operations.
  • Work directly with the CFO and executive leadership.
  • Lead the transition from outsourced accounting to an internal finance function.
  • Build and improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
  • Have meaningful client-facing and team leadership responsibilities.
  • Work fully remotely from Colombia.
  • Potential for a long-term engagement following the initial contractor period.
What You'll Do
Accounting Operations & QuickBooks
  • Own and maintain the General Ledger (GL), ensuring accuracy and integrity.
  • Use QuickBooks Online and/or Desktop as a primary accounting system for day-to-day financial operations.
  • Maintain the Chart of Accounts and accounting structure.
  • Lead the monthly close directly within QuickBooks.
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Generate financial statements and management reports from QuickBooks.
  • Support the transition from outsourced accounting to an internal accounting function.
  • Establish scalable accounting processes and financial controls.
Financial Reporting & Cash Management
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Review Profit & Loss statements and performance across business units.
  • Monitor cash flow and financial activity.
  • Provide timely financial information to the CFO and executive leadership.
  • Identify discrepancies and resolve accounting issues proactively.
Client, Team & Operational Support
  • Interface directly with clients regarding accounting-related questions, requests, and financial information.
  • Communicate financial matters clearly and professionally to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Supervise Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and bookkeeping activities.
  • Ensure the accounting team consistently follows established standards and procedures.
  • Review invoices, payroll, expense reports, and vendor payments.
  • Support operational and administrative responsibilities outside traditional accounting functions when business needs require it.
  • Work collaboratively across functions rather than operating exclusively within the accounting department.
Compliance & Controls
  • Coordinate payroll tax, sales tax, and year-end tax reporting activities.
  • Ensure accounting practices follow company policies and financial controls.
  • Handle sensitive financial and client information with the highest level of confidentiality and discretion.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience as a Financial Controller, Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or similar role.
  • At least 2–3 years of professional, day-to-day QuickBooks experience.
  • Experience using QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Desktop as a primary accounting system, not simply basic familiarity or occasional exposure.
  • Proven ability to maintain the General Ledger directly in QuickBooks.
  • Hands-on experience performing reconciliations and month-end close in QuickBooks.
  • Experience generating financial statements and reports directly from QuickBooks.
  • Proven experience with full ownership of the General Ledger.
  • Strong experience managing month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience supervising accounting, AP/AR, or bookkeeping functions.
  • Ability to communicate directly and professionally with clients regarding accounting-related matters.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
  • Willingness to support operational responsibilities outside the traditional accounting function when needed.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
  • Advanced English proficiency (C1/C2) with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently during U.S. business hours.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience transitioning an accounting function in-house or improving accounting processes.
  • Experience with project accounting software such as BigTime or similar platforms.
  • Experience within professional services, construction, architecture, engineering, or design firms.
  • Experience in Luxury Architecture, Interior Design, or High-End Residential Design firms is highly desirable.
  • CPA or equivalent accounting certification is a plus.
How Success Is Measured
Success in this role will be measured by your ability to:
  • Independently manage accounting operations using QuickBooks.
  • Maintain an accurate, reliable, and well-controlled General Ledger.
  • Complete reconciliations and month-end close accurately and on schedule.
  • Deliver reliable financial statements and management reporting.
  • Successfully support the transition to an internal accounting function.
  • Maintain high accounting standards across the team.
  • Communicate confidently and professionally with clients.
  • Contribute proactively to operational needs beyond accounting when required.
  • Provide leadership with timely and reliable financial information for decision-making.
Why Join Us?
  • Fully remote opportunity.
  • Competitive compensation of $2,000 – $4,000 USD/month.
  • High-impact role reporting directly to the CFO.
  • Significant ownership over accounting operations and process improvement.
  • Direct exposure to clients and executive leadership.
  • Opportunity to help build an internal finance function.
  • Three-month contractor trial period with potential for a long-term engagement.
Important Notes
Please apply only if you meet the core QuickBooks requirements of this position.
Candidates must have at least 2–3 years of professional experience using QuickBooks Online and/or Desktop as a primary day-to-day accounting system.
Candidates should be prepared to explain during the selection process:
  • How many years they have professionally used QuickBooks.
  • Whether they have used QuickBooks Online, Desktop, or both.
  • How they used QuickBooks in their day-to-day accounting responsibilities.
  • Whether they maintained the General Ledger directly in QuickBooks.
  • Whether they performed bank/account reconciliations in QuickBooks.
  • Whether they independently managed the monthly close in QuickBooks.
  • What financial reports they generated directly from the system.

Basic exposure, self-learning, or listing QuickBooks as a skill without substantial professional hands-on experience will not meet the requirement for this position.
Candidates must also be comfortable interacting directly with clients, overseeing accounting team standards, and supporting operational responsibilities outside their core accounting duties when needed.
The engagement begins with a three-month contractor trial period, with the opportunity to transition into a longer-term role based on performance and business needs.
