Purpose and Scope

The Executive Director, Medical Affairs supports the development and execution of medical affairs strategies, programs, and deliverables aligned with compliant marketing strategies. This role provides clinical and subject-matter expertise to marketing and sales teams; ensures the scientific integrity of research, information, and communications with healthcare providers and patient advocacy groups; and builds productive, compliant partnerships with internal product development and commercial teams, as well as external healthcare providers and opinion leaders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary Medical Affairs expert for assigned therapeutic areas.
  • Identifies, develops, and maintains productive relationships with thought leaders, key stakeholders, healthcare providers, and professional organizations relevant to the Company’s business.
  • Provides accurate, relevant, and compliant medical and scientific support through live or virtual presentations, one-on-one discussions, peer-to-peer scientific exchange, and other stakeholder engagements.
  • Develops and executes Medical Affairs strategic scientific programs, including field strategy and KOL engagement plans, in alignment with the North American Medical Affairs team.
  • Creates, reviews, and edits medical and scientific content for documents and presentations used with clinical audiences; participates in MLR review of medical and commercial materials, as appropriate.
  • Supports development and execution of publication plans, abstracts, posters, and congress materials to advance scientific understanding, validate product effectiveness and safety, and support appropriate research and educational opportunities.
  • Attends scientific congresses and medical meetings, monitors published literature, and gathers clinical insights, unmet needs, and competitive intelligence to inform Medical Affairs strategy.
  • Maintains thorough and current knowledge of disease states, clinical information, product data, competitive products, and therapeutic areas within the Company’s portfolio.
  • Effectively communicates scientific and medical information to internal and external audiences, including providing compliant medical and scientific booth support at national congresses and meetings, as requested.
  • Collaborates with Product Support to develop custom medical information letters for medical and product inquiries.
  • Partners cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Medical Science Liaisons, Scientific Communications, HEOR, Pharmacovigilance, Early-Stage Development, Clinical Development, Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, and Business Development teams.
  • Maintains current clinical and professional certifications, if applicable.
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as Company policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements.
  • Interacts effectively with employees at all levels within a matrix organization.
  • Regularly and reliably performs all assigned job duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Expertise in therapeutic areas within Tolmar’s portfolio.
  • Strong strategic, creative, and analytical thinking skills, with the ability to solve complex problems and mitigate risk.
  • Ability to critically evaluate research design, methodology, and outcome measures.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and collaborate across functions, cultures, organizational levels, and external business partners to achieve business goals.
  • Experience influencing multifunctional teams at local and global levels, including collaboration with marketing and sales teams.
  • Training and experience with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced understanding of current regulatory and quality requirements.
  • Ability to develop and execute tactical plans aligned with customer strategies to support company product sales and profitability.
  • Experience interpreting highly technical information and translating scientific, clinical, and industry insights into commercially relevant planning.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong leadership, negotiation, judgment, discretion, and follow-up skills.
  • Current knowledge of industry business practices and budget management principles.

Education & Experience

  • Advanced degree in a scientific or related field required; MD, Ph.D., or PharmD preferred.
  • Ten or more years of progressive medical affairs experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Five or more years of breast cancer therapeutic area experience.

 Working Conditions

  • Working conditions are consistent with a normal office environment and/or remotely from home office.
  • Travel is required up to 50%.

Tolmar compensation programs are focused on equitable, fair pay practices including market-based base pay and a strong benefits package. The final compensation offered may vary from the posted range based on the selected candidates qualifications and experience.
