Engineering Technical Lead (Senior Consultant, Engineering & Technical Services)
We are seeking a Engineering Technical Lead as part of our Senior Consultant, Engineering & Technical Services career path to guide the modernization of a Maryland state government public-facing website. This role supports the migration of an established SharePoint-based site to Drupal, serving as the technical bridge between engineering, product, UX, content, and state agency stakeholders. The Technical Lead will investigate existing systems, identify technical gaps, translate findings into actionable recommendations, and coordinate across teams to ensure a successful platform transition that serves Maryland residents. This is a fully remote role.
At Fearless, this Senior Consultant collaborates with cross functional teams to align the technical vision, implementation, and quality of software systems across development, reliability, testing, and operations. This role will possess the skills to be able to bridge business objectives with technical execution in software development, infrastructure, security, and testing at an advanced application level of proficiency. The Sr. Consultant role will work on projects that allow them to ensure scalable, secure, and reliable solutions while mentoring engineers, fostering collaboration, and aligning stakeholders with product and project goals.
Fearless Your Responsibilities in this Role:
●Serve as Fearless's primary technical consultant, guiding migration and implementation decisions throughout the platform transition.
●Work closely with Fearless’s multi-disciplinary team and various stakeholder groups within Maryland state government (e.g. software engineers, UX researchers, content strategists, and other state agencies groups).
●Evaluate existing functionality of the current SharePoint website and determine how it can be supported within the Drupal and Maryland Web Design System ecosystem.
●Identify technical gaps between the existing implementation and the capabilities provided by Maryland's Drupal platform.
●Produce clear technical documentation consumable by both technical and non-technical audiences, including gap analyses, requirements, architecture documentation, and recommendations.
●Where appropriate, articulate viable technical approaches, communicate pros and cons of each, and deliver actionable recommendations aligned to project goals.
●Encourage design and implementation patterns that leverage reuse of Maryland Web Design System Drupal components and state technology capabilities.
●Define specifications for new Drupal components to be made available state-wide.
●Proactively identify technical risks, unresolved dependencies, and integration constraints that could impact delivery timelines or platform functionality.

PROJECT SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
●Minimum of 7 years of experience in systems architecture, software engineering, or a related field.
●Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. An additional three (3) years of equivalent professional experience may be substituted for the degree.
●Proven expertise designing and implementing enterprise-level systems architecture.
●Proficiency with Drupal CMS and experience with system integration technologies, including REST APIs, messaging queues, and other enterprise integration patterns.
●Experience integrating enterprise applications and technologies to support scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
●Experience with modern web applications, CMS platforms, or similar web publishing systems.
●Experience leading website migrations, legacy modernization, or platform transitions involving established public-facing systems.
●Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar systems, dependencies, and technical constraints through investigation and analysis.
●Experience producing technical documentation, including gap analyses, requirements documentation, architecture documentation, and technical recommendations.
●Experience translating loosely defined technical problems into specific, actionable resolutions.
●Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary delivery and stakeholder teams.
●Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences, including state agency stakeholders
Preferred Experience
●Experience with government digital services, accessibility standards, U.S. Web Design System, Maryland Web Design System, or similar design systems.
●Proficiency in SharePoint or experience migrating content from SharePoint to modern CMS platforms.
●Experience with cloud infrastructure, API design, or third-party integrations in government or enterprise contexts

The salary range for this position is:
Minimum Salary: $120,588
Salary Midpoint: $156,764
Maximum Salary: $195,955
Hiring Range for Role: $120,000 - $160,000
*This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance criteria.
