Job Description

At FOLKS, we are building a talent pool to identify and stay in touch with professionals who may be considered for future opportunities as DMP Artists. We currently do not have an open position for this role; this posting is intended to anticipate potential hiring needs and ensure that we have qualified profiles available when new positions arise.

The DMP Artist will be responsible for creating simple and complex matte paintings that support the visual construction of environments, set extensions, and digital elements for VFX projects, ensuring aesthetic, technical, and narrative consistency with FOLKS’ quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Create simple and complex matte paintings using tools such as Photoshop, Maya, Nuke, or other platforms required by the production.
• Collaborate with supervisors, artists, producers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the proper execution of assigned shots.
• Coordinate work with VFX Supervisors and Compositing Supervisors, ensuring technical and creative alignment throughout the process.
• Maintain ongoing communication with the Matte Painting department and other departments involved in the production workflow.
• Deliver work plans on time and in accordance with the quality standards defined by FOLKS VFX.
• Address daily requests, participate in production meetings, and apply feedback in a timely manner.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with significant experience in professional VFX production environments, particularly in Digital Matte Painting (DMP) workflows. The ideal candidate should have strong artistic judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to integrate effectively into collaborative, fast-paced workflows.

• Experience with or knowledge of tools such as Photoshop, Maya, Nuke, Houdini, Unreal Engine, Gaea, Mari, Mudbox, Rebelle, SpeedTree, Substance 3D Suite, Terragen, and ZBrush.
• Knowledge of DMP and VFX processes, including color matching, 2D element extraction, projection setup, replacement and plate extension, CG touch-ups, 360° skydome manipulation, and multi-layered projection setups.
• Ability to understand creative and technical briefs, apply feedback in a timely manner, and actively participate in dailies and review workflows.
• Familiarity with tracking and review tools such as ShotGrid, as well as sequence, asset, and shot continuity processes.
• Ability to work independently in a dynamic production environment while maintaining high quality standards and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills for working with supervisors, artists, production, and other departments.
