What you'll do...As Director of Product Design – Financial Products & Native Apps, you will lead the strategy and execution for H&R Block’s most important digital customer journeys for both core tax experiences and financial products. You will guide a distributed team of product and content designers across core experiences including mobile apps, digital banking, authentication, identity, and trust. This role is accountable not only for design quality, but for measurable business and customer outcomes—improving conversion through critical journeys, increasing digital adoption and retention, strengthening customer trust, improving customer communication, reducing friction in high-risk moments, and enabling faster, more consistent product delivery through scalable design systems and AI-enabled workflows.
Day-to-day you’ll...
Customer-Facing Experience Design & Delivery
- Core App Experience: lead the delivery of our native app migration and own the end-to-end experience vision and design for H&R Block’s centralized client experiences
- Financial Products: create a vision and partner to build a roadmap that delivers growth in both clients and engagement metrics across our suite of financial products, including our Spruce Money digital banking product and seasonal loan options
- Authentication & Access: deliver best-in-class login experiences, SSO, multi-factor authentication, and account security flows across consumer applications to reduce customer friction and increase customer authentication rates
- Identity Management: define experiences for user profiles, account settings, privacy controls, and identity verification flows to deliver a simplified and more accessible data ecosystem
- Trust & Safety: establish patterns that helps reduce fruad risk while maintaining usability and increasing customer trust
Lead the organization and amplify impact
- Lead from the front: Inspire and coach a distributed design organization
- Multiply leadership: directly manage and empower design managers and leads — helping them grow as leaders who can scale quality, talent, and delivery.
- Forge a culture of impact: build an inclusive, collaborative environment where designers and managers at all levels can do their best work.
- Shape the strategy: partner with Product, Engineering, and Stakeholders to define the experience vision, drive innovation, and strengthen the product development culture.
- Champion design excellence: raise the bar for craft, usability, and systems thinking—investing in practices that support world-class design across the broader design community.
- Elevate the end-to-end experience: collaborate with fellow design leaders to align priorities and deliver consistent experiences across product lines and journeys.
- Grow the next generation: mentor, coach, and sponsor future design leaders through feedback, development plans, and opportunity creation.
What you'll bring to the team...Design innovator with a track record of delivery
- 10+ years in product design or UX design, with significant experience in enterprise and/or B2C products
- 5+ years leading design teams
- Experience building and scaling design systems in a large organization (patterns, governance, and adoption)
- A strong portfolio demonstrating strategic thinking, end-to-end problem solving, and high-quality craft
- Demonstrated partnership with Product Management and Engineering in an agile environment, with the ability to influence priorities and tradeoffs
- Excellent communication skills and executive presence—able to tell compelling stories with design and align diverse stakeholders
- Deep understanding of modern design tools and workflows (e.g., Figma, design tokens, component libraries) and how to scale them across teams
- Customer obsession and a strong point of view on product strategy, with the confidence to advocate for it while incorporating data and feedback
- Ability to operate at scale across multiple functions, product lines, and complex technical platforms
- Fluency with AI-powered design and prototyping tools (e.g., Lovable, Builder.io, Figma MCP) and a clear point of view on how to integrate them into design-to-code workflows at scale
It would be even better if you also had...- Experience with developer tools, internal platforms, or platform design
- FinTech and/or regulated-industry experience
- User research and/or design operations background
- Experience designing AI-powered experiences or conversational interfaces
- Accessibility expertise (WCAG, inclusive design)
- Experience shipping products across multiple platforms and geographies

Pay Range InformationThe pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. This information is posted pursuant to local requirements to provide applicants with information about what they might be eligible to receive. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed. Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan.

Pay Range$120,900.00 - $205,500.00/Yr.
