Job purpose

The Director of Retail Sales is responsible for leading the retail sales strategy and execution for the company's branded CPG snack portfolio across the U.S. market. This role will manage strategic retail accounts, drive revenue and distribution growth, strengthen retailer partnerships, and deliver profitable sales results across grocery, mass, club, convenience, natural, specialty, and emerging retail channels.

 

This role requires deep knowledge of the U.S. CPG snack landscape, including retailer category strategy, syndicated data, trade promotion management, broker and distributor partnerships, and new item commercialization. The Director will work closely with internal teams and external retail partners to expand distribution, improve velocity, execute promotional plans, and build long-term brand presence at shelf.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The associate’s primary functions and responsibilities are as follows:
  • Develop and execute the U.S. retail sales strategy for assigned CPG snack brands, including revenue, volume, distribution, margin, trade spend, and customer profitability targets.
  • Own and grow relationships with key U.S. retail customers, including senior buyers, category managers, merchants, and retailer cross-functional teams across grocery, mass, club, convenience, natural, and specialty channels.
  • Lead new item sell-in, assortment expansion, line reviews, resets, and planogram opportunities to increase ACV, points of distribution, shelf presence, and velocity.
  • Use syndicated data and retailer insights, including Circana/IRI, NielsenIQ, SPINS, retailer portals, shopper data, and category reviews, to identify growth opportunities, support sell-in stories, and improve account performance.
  • Develop and manage annual customer plans, trade promotion calendars, customer investment strategies, and promotional programs that drive profitable growth and measurable ROI.
  • Manage broker partners, sales agencies, distributors, and customer-specific support teams to ensure strong execution, clear priorities, and accountability against sales goals.
  • Partner with demand planning, supply chain, finance, and operations to build accurate forecasts, manage customer demand, support launches, and conduct regular business reviews.
  • Collaborate with marketing, innovation, category management, finance, supply chain, revenue growth management, and operations to align sales plans with brand strategy, pricing, packaging, innovation, and commercialization timelines.
  • Drive in-store execution, display activity, promotional compliance, shelving, merchandising, and retail activation to support brand visibility and consumer conversion.
  • Monitor snack category trends, competitor activity, pricing, retailer strategies, consumer behavior, and emerging channel opportunities to inform growth plans and commercial decisions.
  • Track and report key sales metrics, including net sales, gross
  • Perform other assigned duties
  • Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Must follow Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive CPG retail sales experience, preferably within snacks, bakery snacks, sweet snacks, salty
  • snacks, better-for-you snacks, frozen snacks, or adjacent food categories.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience leading key accounts, sales teams, brokers, agencies, or cross-functional commercial initiatives.
  • Proven track record of growing branded CPG products within the U.S. retail market.
  • Strong experience managing major U.S. retailers such as Walmart, Target, Kroger, Costco, Sam's Club, Albertsons/Safeway,
  • Publix, Ahold Delhaize, Meijer, H-E-B, Whole Foods, Sprouts, 7-Eleven, Circle K, or similar accounts.
  • Demonstrated success with new item sell-in, line reviews, category reviews, promotional planning, and retailer negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. CPG metrics, including ACV, TDP, velocity, trade rate, promo lift, gross-to-net, retailer margin, deduction management, and customer P&L.;
  • Proficiency with syndicated data and customer platforms such as Circana/IRI, NielsenIQ, SPINS, Retail Link, 84.51, Stratum, Luminate, or similar tools.
  • Experience managing trade promotion budgets and evaluating ROI.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% to meet with customers, attend line reviews, support trade shows, and execute business plans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with the ability to create and manage documents, spreadsheets, email communications, and presentations effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

This is a remote position; however, the ideal candidate should be based on the East Coast of the United States, as this role is heavily focused on East Coast sales operations.
