Position Overview 

The Director of Rehabilitation Research will provide strategic and scientific leadership for the rehabilitation research enterprise, with a particular focus on the Spinal Cord Injury Division. This individual will oversee a portfolio of clinical and translational research programs while maintaining an active research program of their own. 

The Director will establish and implement the strategic vision for clinical research, with a focus on achieving national prominence, improving patient outcomes, strengthening investigator development, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the long-term viability of research programs. 

Working closely with physicians, clinicians, investigators, research staff, executive leadership, academic institutions, and national research organizations, the Director will build collaborative research relationships, develop major research initiatives, secure external funding, and enhance the organization's national reputation through high-impact research, publications, and scientific partnerships. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Lead the rehabilitation research enterprise and provide strategic and scientific direction for clinical research programs.  

• Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans for rehabilitation research.  

• Oversee the research portfolio for the Spinal Cord Injury Division while maintaining an active independent research program.  

• Lead, mentor, and develop investigators, research staff, and clinical research teams.  

• Develop major research initiatives and identify opportunities to expand rehabilitation research programs.  

• Lead federal grant development and establish funding strategies to secure external research support.  

• Identify and cultivate relationships with federal agencies, private organizations, academic institutions, and other research funding sources.  

• Maintain and expand existing research collaborations while developing new strategic partnerships.  

• Support research activities conducted by investigators, physicians, and clinical staff.  

• Collaborate with clinicians, physicians, affiliated faculty, academic partners, and national research organizations.  

• Advise the TIRR CEO and senior leadership on matters related to rehabilitation research and scientific strategy.  

• Lead research councils, committees, and other organizational research initiatives.
