AI Summary

Own the end-to-end strategy, product, and technical direction for the Long Stays segment to drive ARR growth and product metrics. Lead a lean team of product builders while remaining hands-on in writing specs, reviewing code, and shipping features.

Help make the world more hospitable

The hospitality industry is uniquely human, and it deserves technology that’s just as inspiring as the people behind it. At Mews, we’re transforming the industry with a platform that helps hotels run smarter, move faster and create better guest experiences.

You’ll work with smart, curious people who care deeply about what they do. You’ll have autonomy and the trust to make good decisions and move quickly. And you’ll enjoy a real sense of purpose as you see the impact of what we’re building.

If you’re motivated by ownership, curiosity and meaningful impact, and are driven to deliver consistent high performance, you’ll feel at home here.

About the role

Let's get into the specifics. It’s impossible to capture every nuance of a role – especially at a rapidly growing company like Mews – but if we had to distil it into a job description (which we do because this is a job description), it would be this:

Long Stays are one of the fastest-growing segments in hospitality. The guests are different, the economics are different, the operational model is different – and the software most hotels use to run them was built for none of it. This role exists to change that.

As Director of Product and Engineering, Long Stays, you will own this segment end-to-end: the strategy, the product, the technical direction and the outcomes. You will lead a small team of product builders while building yourself – writing specs, making product calls, contributing directly to what ships. Reporting to the VP of Product and Engineering, you are the single accountable owner for Long Stays as a product capability within Mews.

This is not a role for someone who wants to manage at arm's length. The team is lean by design. The expectation is that you are in the work – discovering problems, setting direction, reviewing code and copy, shipping things. You will use AI agents and internal tooling to extend what the team can do, and you will raise the ceiling on what that looks like as you go.

Your success will be measured against a blend of commercial and product metrics – ARR growth, embedded payments revenue, and product north star metrics we will define together. You own both the quality of what ships and the outcomes it drives.

What you will own

  • The Long Stays product vision, strategy and roadmap – across hybrid hospitality operators, student accommodation, aparthotels, coliving and adjacent segments – with direct accountability for ARR growth and product north star metrics.
  • The full resident lifecycle as a product capability: booking and lead-to-lease (monthly booking engine, tenant screening, contracting, guest verification and document collection); move-in and onboarding; billing and payments (recurring billing automation, SEPA and BACS direct debit, deposit lifecycle, invoice delivery, index-linked rent increases); revenue management and hybrid inventory yield; and the tenant self-service portal.
  • Embedded payments revenue as a shared commercial outcome – working closely with the Fintech division to ensure we deliver the best fintech products for this segment and drive them to adoption.
  • Technical direction for the tribe: architecture decisions, engineering standards, system health. You are the senior technical voice here as well as the product voice.
  • A small team of product builders – setting their context, developing their craft and ensuring they can operate as full teams of 1 on their sub-metrics.
  • Hiring into the tribe as it grows, with full accountability for calibration and performance.
  • The tribe's relationship with the rest of the organisation – aligning with other tribes on shared infrastructure, coordinating dependencies and representing Long Stays in leadership forums.

How you will work

  • You will contribute individually on the highest-leverage problems, not just direct others toward them.
  • You will use AI agents, internal skills and automation as the default way to cover disciplines and speed up delivery – not as an occasional productivity boost.
  • You will build the tribe's context repository: the research, decision logs, domain models and tooling that let builders pick up any problem without a human handoff.
  • You will define the sub-metrics each builder owns and ensure they have what they need to ship against them independently.
  • You will set the craft bar – for product thinking, for engineering quality, for how the team communicates decisions.

What we are looking for

  • Experience in both product leadership and hands-on product building – you are comfortable moving between strategy and execution in the same week.
  • Technical depth: you can engage seriously with engineers on architecture and system design, and you have strong opinions about what good engineering looks like in practice.
  • Track record in a vertical or segment-specific product context – you know what it takes to build for a specific customer type and make a business case for it.
  • Comfort running a small team with high autonomy. You set the context, not the tasks.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted workflows: you use these tools natively, not occasionally.
  • Strong commercial instincts. Long Stays has real revenue potential and real pricing complexity. You understand both.
  • Experience in hospitality, property management, short-term rentals, student accommodation or a similarly operationally intensive sector is a meaningful plus.

Why this matters

Long Stays is a segment with structural tailwinds – extended business travel, digital nomads, relocation, student accommodation, healthcare placements, assisted living and more. Mews has the operating system, the distribution and the customer relationships to win here. What it needs is a person who can build the capability that makes that real. If that is you, we would love to hear from you.

Life at Mews

We’re an equal opportunities employer. We value teams that reflect the diversity of the customers and communities we serve. Different perspectives make better ideas, stronger products and a more welcoming company.

We also believe transparency is important when deciding if you're the right fit. Mews is an ambitious, high-pressure environment of continuous learning and high standards. Success here requires resilience, adaptability and a willingness to solve difficult problems.

A few things that define how we work:

  • High autonomy means high responsibility. People are expected to take ownership and drive outcomes. There isn’t a detailed playbook for everything, and that’s part of what makes the work challenging – and rewarding.
  • Change is constant. We’re growing quickly and adapting as we scale. Teams, processes and priorities continue to evolve, and only people who stay curious and agile will thrive.
  • We’re remote-first, not relationship-free. Flexibility is core to how we work, but strong relationships still matter. Our teams are global, so we need expert collaborators and communicators to help us move forward together.
  • AI is an integral part of our processes. It’s not here to steal people’s jobs, but to amplify efficiency and productivity. We’re motivated to proactively use the technology to seek out better ways of working and share our findings with the rest of the company.

If there's anything we can do to support you during the application process, let us know.

We don't discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability or any other protected characteristic.

One final thing: don't hold back. If you don't meet 100% of the criteria in this job description but you're certain you could make a big impact, apply. Everyone should have equal access to opportunities, and we're committed to providing an inclusive experience.

If Mews sounds like the kind of environment where you'd thrive, we'd love to hear from you.
