The Director of Business Insights will lead primary market research initiatives and synthesize data into actionable strategic recommendations for cross-functional teams. They are responsible for managing research budgets, vendor relationships, and supporting launch readiness for the company's portfolio.

The Director, Business Insights is a passionate, strategic leader who will help build best-in-class insights concerning patients, caregivers, and the healthcare professionals who care for them. This role will lead the development of the market research plan, lead primary market research projects, and synthesize brand insights into clear recommendations in support of our portfolio. Serve as a strategic partner for Marketing, Market Access, Account Management, Business Development and New Product Planning.
Key result areas (major duties, accountabilities and responsibilities)
Primary Market Research (PMR)
- Utilize deep market research expertise to develop a primary market research plan that utilizes appropriate and innovative methodologies and scope to support pre-launch and post-launch activities.
- Develop and manage the annual primary market research budget, prioritizing spend across studies to maximize strategic value.
- Lead entire market research processes, including RFP development, vendor selection, and efficient project execution.
- Translate research findings into actionable insights and strategic recommendations that address key business questions while anticipating follow-up questions from project teams and senior leadership.
- Ensure all research activities comply with applicable laws, privacy standards, and internal policies.
- Support advisory board activities by consolidating resulting insights.
Insights Synthesis & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Serve as a strategic partner to cross-functional stakeholders, including Account Management, Market Access, and Marketing teams.
- Translate data from various sources, including PMR and data from the analytics and CI teams, into actionable commercial insights to support strategic decisions, resource allocation, and operational improvements.
- Independently design the ideal approach to answering complex business questions, pulling from all available internal and external data sources.
- In collaboration with the BI&A team, develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide inputs to performance dashboards.
Launch Readiness:
- Design and lead pre- and post-launch primary research (e.g., message testing, HCP and patient/caregiver tracking) that informs launch strategy and readiness.
- Work with launch teams to ensure timely capture and interpretation of real-time data to inform launch execution.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MS, PhD) preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or healthcare industry, with at least 5 years in leading primary market research projects.
- Rare Disease experience is a requirement.
- Proven ability to generate actionable business insights from complex datasets.
- Strong project management, vendor management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance related to market research and data usage in biotech
- Demonstrated mastery of market research methodologies
- Experience supporting the launch of specialty products or gene therapies is a strong plus.
Salary Range: $205,000 - $265,000
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant, relevant years of experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from where they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
