Digital Infuzion seeks an exceptional scientific leader to play a pivotal role in managing a large coordination center. This is a unique opportunity for a Ph.D. or M.D.-trained professional with experience in coordinating large, distributed research networks. The ideal candidate will have a passion for advancing biomedical research through innovative data and process coordination strategies, a track record of interdisciplinary leadership, and a keen interest in leveraging cutting-edge technology to drive discovery. Digital Infuzion’s purpose is to enable health-focused organizations in helping people live better lives. We build custom infotech solutions and provide services using our health care and biomedical research domain expertise. Our work addresses the entire continuum of translational science, from bench to bedside to public health. You will work in the Data Coordination Center of Excellence, leading initiatives that advance scientific data dissemination and sharing, research collaboration and communication, and process optimization.
 
As Deputy Principal Investigator, you will serve as a strategic and scientific partner to the Principal Investigator to help shape the overall direction of the coordinating center. You will lead complex research coordination initiatives and engage with key stakeholders across government and academia. This role provides significant career growth potential for qualified individuals, including the opportunity to assume leadership as a Principal Investigator/Project Director for major projects.


Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely with the project’s Principal Investigator to provide overall leadership and management and execute the strategic vision.
  • Act on the PI's behalf when delegated and provide continuity of leadership.
  • Serve as a principal scientific and programmatic interface with the client’s leadership, the Contracting Officer's Representative, consortium hub leaders, consortium groups, partner organizations, and other stakeholders for the management of the program, setting of priorities, and providing policy/process guidance.
  • Serve as scientific thought leader representing the project at scientific and technical meetings, including the program’s annual meeting.
  • Formulate and execute the AI initiatives aimed at realizing efficiencies and developing new capabilities
  • Contribute to the design of innovative solutions, both technical and process oriented.
  • Oversee project budgets, labor projections, staffing, schedules, and deliverables to ensure alignment with program goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate subcontractor performance, ensuring contract deliverables and budgets are met.
  • Stay informed of current trends and advancements in translational research, team science, and innovative clinical research.
  • Contribute to business development, including proposal development and capture planning.

Requirements:
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent in a relevant field e.g. biomedical sciences, translational research, clinical informatics) with a proven track record in scientific leadership and program management.
  • Documented expertise in translational science/research and team science
  • 5+ years’ experience managing an inter-disciplinary team of 5 or more
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with government and academia stakeholders.
  • Passion for and expertise in generative AI.

Preferred:
  • Leadership experience managing a coordination center for a large research consortium or experience as a key contributor of a research consortium who worked closely with its coordination center.
  • Leadership experience managing a team specializing in software development, data management, scientific communication, meeting and conference logistics, and end user support.
  • Experience managing sub-contractors in a federal government contracting environment.
  • Experience with scientific communication and scientific writing, including grant and contract proposal writing.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and visualization tools
  • Working knowledge of software development methodologies and frameworks in a cloud environment.
  • Familiar with the Agile Scrum project management methodologies.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop the relationships, program knowledge, and leadership capacity needed to assume broader executive responsibilities over time.
