Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Power BI Developer to drive enterprise-wide report rationalization and transformation for an insurance customer. The role focuses on modernizing legacy reporting into a self-service BI ecosystem using Power BI, leveraging a Snowflake + dbt-based data platform structured across Raw, Silver, and Gold layers.

The candidate will play a critical role in enabling business-led analytics, reducing report redundancy, and delivering scalable, performant, and governed reporting solutions.


Key Responsibilities

Report Rationalization & Transformation

  • Lead assessment and rationalization of existing reports, identifying redundancy, consolidation opportunities, and decommissioning candidates
  • Design a target-state reporting architecture aligned with self-service BI principles

Power BI Development

  • Build interactive dashboards and reports enabling slicing, dicing, and drill-through analysis
  • Develop paginated reports for pixel-perfect reporting needs (regulatory, operational)
  • Implement complex DAX calculations, KPIs, and semantic models
  • Optimize report performance using best practices in data modeling and query optimization

Data Modeling & Integration

  • Design and consume curated data models from Snowflake (Gold layer) for reporting
  • Work with data engineering teams to define data transformations in dbt (Silver → Gold)
  • Ensure consistency between source-to-report data lineage and business definitions

Self-Service BI Enablement

  • Enable business users with governed datasets and reusable semantic layers
  • Define and enforce Power BI governance standards (workspace strategy, naming conventions, versioning)

Performance & Optimization

  • Optimize Power BI datasets, queries, and dashboards for performance and scalability
  • Implement incremental refresh, aggregations, and efficient data models
  • Ensure efficient usage of Snowflake resources for reporting workloads

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • 6–10+ years of experience in BI/Analytics with strong Power BI expertise
  • Strong hands-on experience with: 
    • Power BI Desktop & Service
    • DAX, Power Query (M)
    • Paginated Reports (Power BI Report Builder / SSRS)
  • Experience with Snowflake data platform and modern data architectures
  • Familiarity with dbt for data transformation and modeling
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts (Raw, Silver, Gold layers)
  • Expertise in data modeling techniques (star schema, dimensional modeling)

Domain Expertise

  • Experience in Insurance domain (Claims, Policy, Billing, Underwriting) preferred
  • Understanding of regulatory and operational reporting requirements
